    Good morning MSers

I'm wide awake so I thought I'd do something useful. This month has ground to a halt because last week I went down with the Shingles  so I'm off work at the mo and I've been feeling so poorely I've been trusting my menfolk to shop (Rathbones bread, cake, biscuits, sweets:eek:  )but today I'm going to have to get back on track. As long as I take my time I can potter round the kitchen (luckily I've got baking stuff in)
I need to go to the Post Office and get cat food and a few bits from Aldi but again in my own time cos I've been told the more you rest the quicker you get better and then I can have a look at what I've got in the cupboards and see how far I can stretch it

    Have a lovely day

    Good morning cuddles,
....and there was I thinking I was the only mad person on the grocery thread at 7am! Hope you are starting to feel better, shingles can be a long haul so take it steady. I am off work with glandular fever, also a long haul, and like you I potter gently (if possible!)
    Have a good day

  • Morning all, I have sustained from shopping since my grocery order on the 30th Jan which is like a minor miracle foe me ;) I do not need anything at the moment so if I can restrain myself from the supermarket offers til weds I will be very happy :D

I asked DH about the toilet rolls I bought abd he said he knew they weren't as nice but he just thought they were recycled!! He thinks they are a false economy as he has to use double the amount, until I told him you can buy 3 packs of them to our normal ones!! So I won that one :T now to see if he will eat cheap beans :rotfl:

Well, my first week's shop for Feb was £110, and I have some bread to pick up today, so let's say £120. However, that included some things that won't get used this week: a piece of fillet steak for an italian dish I want to make (I asked for sirloin but they had this for the same price), a big bag of frozen smoked fish (2 meals worth), some prawns (from a BOGOF) and our cupboards are pretty full. So I'm fine with that. I pointed out to DH that I have cut our groceries from over 200 to 100 a week and he was quite surprised.

Tonight's tea is stuffed baked potatoes, using the ham from the shank I got at the weekend: have already had masses of meaty soup and DH has taken some for his lunch. If I am home at lunch time, I'll finish the soup, but if not it'll be a work lunch as I am not in a fit state to make anything - bad cold, day 5. And anyway, with a cold, sandwiches are not on the menu. Rice pudding please.
    Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600
    Overpayments to date: £3000
    June grocery challenge: 400/600

Just a quick one to say good luck to everyone who's month starts tomorrow (like me!).
Am skint this month - just had bedroom redecorated and new furniture - so will be trying to eat out the cupborads and freezer until pay day on the 15th (another 2 weeks:rolleyes: ) with minimum spends on fresh stuff.

Am going to aim to spend just a fiver this week to supplement what I already have.... wish me luck

Well all good plans go wrong!
My aim to spend a fiver went out of the window - ended up spending £22 in Tesco on Saturday but in my defence the food I now have should last me through to the middle of next week.
I also bought lunches ready for the week so hopefully should avoid unnecessary day time spending(!)

    £100 target for the month - £22 spent - £78 to go

Well ...my coat is on a very shaky peg this month already

I have already spent £80.99.... so I have £19.01 left for the next 3 weeks

I do have quite alot in though. So I should only need fresh fruit and veg, and milk.
If nothing else it will be interesting :D
    Good Luck everyone

    REALLY struggling now..
Have decided to make a note of what I spend throughtout the week, and the first week was fine, the second week however, was really scary..

I've got a full freezer-or pretty much so and made 2 different shepherds pies yesterday with enough to save for another evening meal, maybe abit more..

Going to try and empty the freezer and only spend on the extras that are needed and stuff for lunches-cooked meat and muffins..

Any advice would be great-I'm hopefully starting work this week-or more realistically after halfterm..need to scrimp abit til my wages come thru!
    Budget for Jan/Feb £240 per 4 weeks
Week 1-£52  Week 2-£75
    Week 3-£60.66 :confused:Week 4-£29.98 Total=£217.58
    w/c 18th Feb: £6.50
  • went shopping on Friday evening, couldn't wait to get into the supermarket after a week's restraint (by restraint i mean going into the express one up the road from work every day).

came out having spent £44.75 but with some decent bargains, including
    4x mince reduced to 37p
    1x braising steak for 70p
fancy beef joint 6 quid down from £16

also a couple of bogoffs, and the cheaper catfood (pay 70p more than we were for 6 tins now for 12, well pleased.)

lots of potatoes now as well, so i won't get moaned at for a while.

hoping a lot of this stuff will now last half the month, as i'm away for a week from thursday and so won't be at home scoffing. long as my mum doesn't go made and start buying biscuits and cream cakes all week like she normally does when i'm not there to yell at her we'll be alright....

not sure what am going to cook tonight, have lost track of the fridge a bit, but tomoro will be a pancake bonanza, so that's nice and cheap, and i'm definitely hopefull of going under budget this month.

having said that i'm spending a lot this month on non-grocery stuff as it's my birthday and i'm going to edinburgh for 6 days, so i guess i'd better do something right!
Trying to be good, not always succeeding. :A:beer:
