Evening......could anyone tell me a little about the BM they're advertising in Lidl please? For some reason I can't get the info up on the pooter:o

I was thinking about pancake day....there's some bolognaise sauce in the freezer, but not really enough for a 'proper' meal. I'mthinking of making callelloniI]sp![/Ibut using pancakes in place of pasta......wudya fink?

Keep the recipes coming guys...I've not got my filing system actually up & running yet, but I'm making plenty of notes:D

Hello everyone,

I didn't post at all last month due to very busy month work-wise, but I did try to stick to the challenge, and I think I was about on target, but can't be sure because I think I might have missed a few outings to the shops from my calculations! I did carry on drawing out £50 on a Friday for day to day things, and didn't spend more than that, so I can't have gone too far wrong.

Anyway, I can concentrate on it a bit more this month. I am going for £300 to include groceries, household etc. This is for two adults, two children.

We are on 'Austerity' this month. This means we don't spend anything we don't have to. We do it every year after Christmas. So this will be a lean month for us!

Good luck everyone.

BigMammaF - The bread maker advertised in Lidl doesn't have a name on it but it has 12 programme settings with 90 programme variations, quick bake programme, 1 hour "keep warm" function and a non stick baking tin. 3 year guarantee with instructions and recipe ideas! On offer from tomorrow at £24.99. It looks very similar to ours which is a Prima brand bought from Makro several years ago. If you have an Argos catalogue maybe you could compare the features to the more well know brands but it looks pretty good to me. Hope this helps.

I've just made a Banana Loaf (with DS) but it is definitely more a loaf than a cake. The ingredients were very similar to yours.

4 bananas (yes, mine were manky too and were the cause of the loaf in the 1st place), 2oz caster sugar, 2 tbsp water, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 oz marg, 1 egg, 8oz SR flour, 1/2 tsp bicarb soda). Baked for 1 hr 30 mins @ gas 5.

When cold slice and spread with butter (although butter not essential as it tastes good without it).

Total cost of loaf (not including the gas) was 72p, and will be used in packed lunches and after school snacks before tea.

Perhaps you could let me know if yours is a more 'cakey' texture?

FFM :)

Mine is more of a 'bread pudding' texture, so I guess we have the same cake!! I tried it just now and it is nice, but next time I'll leave the raisins/sultanas out. We had a slice while it was still warm and it was quite soft so it may harden when it cools. eat-drink-smiley-7854.gif

I do these, but haven't for some time so may have to on Tuesday. I made these for my Home Economics O Level (showing my age here :o ). I passed, so they must be ok!!

I fill them with bolognaise and then top with a roux sauce and grated cheese.
Quick and simple and everyone loves them.

Grocery Challenge Feb 16 £346 /400
• Hi Lil-me, I don't think I've been added to your list yet, I'm aiming for £250 For me, OH and 2 kids all meals inc packed lunches and snacks.
I was really chuffed today as we had a day in the city doing some essential clothes shopping, and I avoided all the grocery places, tho I must admit M&S was a struggle! But as far as grocerys went it was a NSD:T .

• I'm allocating £35 as my month goes from 1st Feb- 29th Feb so includes 2X£15 delivery's from my organic fruit and veg box (£30) leaving me with £5 towards staples and other needed items. This amount is for me only now as my female mouse had to be put down due to her cancer and my male mouse had to be put down as he got paralised somehow last week and had no feeling so the vet said it would be best and we had to agree as we had to feed him ourselves for him to eat :( . So the £35 includes food, tioletries, cleaning products, alcohol, etc. Should be quite easy now although I'm thinking about getting more mice soon but not sure when :o . It feels wrong without a pet around and mice are all we have money for and room for at the moment.

:hello: Hello
Bit of a desperate newbie here - who knows nothing about budgeting or how much she spends. I expect that's why I'm always in debt.

I hope I'm not too late to join in.

please can you put me down for £250 lil_me.

That's for 3 adults - I'm counting my 15 yr old as an adult as he eats the most in the family by far - and 1 child. It could be way, way more so the most important thing for me this month is to actually find out how much I spend.

Thanks a lot - this board has been a revelation to me over the last few lurking months.
