  • Can you count me in for the grocery challenge for February please. I spent £287 in January for me OH, 2 kids and 1 big fat rabbit (no I'm not fattening him up for the pot! ) so I'd like to aim at £250 for February. When at work and school we all take packed lunches, snacks etc with us, so the £250 will be for everything.
We don't stay near a supermarket so when we're near one this Friday hopefully I'm going with a list and meal plan to hopefully get off to a good start.:D

HI everyone and hello to LOOBYLEE

My family is 2 adults and 2 children (5 and 1), i have easily spent what you are spending and like you have decided that £400 in my case is enough.

i spent about £100 by cheque at the end of January from Feb's money but went to the bank and took out all my money and have divided it up into money bags - each week I am aiming for £50 grocery shop, with £20 in purse for during the week - this should leave £5 over a week - but i doubt i will see that.

I am however nearly at the end of my first week of this and have £1.50 in my purse to last me until end of tomorrow and i have nothing i really need to buy except bread flour, but want to wait to go to tescos and buy all my list together

    Good luck

    Clare

    good luck everybody

  • just read you post about bread mummygems and wonder if you've tried putting fillings in the dough? I chop up halloumi cheese and fresh coriander onto rolled out dough, wrap it up, leave it to rise, bake. Makes a nice change from sarnies and dead easy to pack up.

Oh thanks for that. I havent tried anything else yet so its something to consider. I might try adding something to the next loaf (not sure what yet :rotfl: )

Hello everyone and welcome to the new people who have decided to take the plunge this month.

We have set our budget at £325 for 2 adults and 2 children but ploughing through all the threads I reckon that's a bit high compared to other people with the same sized family. I think we might aim for £275 and anything we save is a bonus.

Money is a little tighter than normal recently as hubby recently changed jobs and is on emergency tax. We know we should get it back but in the meantime the money coming is is less than normal.

As planned I have withdrawn the cash from the bank and it's ready for my next food shop at the weekend. I hardly ever spend cash so will be going armed with a calculator and I don't care how stupid I look!

Oh nearly forgot - has anyone done a typical monthly shopping list that I can download?

    Good luck everyone from Devon

Hi all, i'm ready for the Feb challenge, i havn't done one before but this time i'm sticking to it. I guess i keep all recipes etc and then look back after the month to see what items i bought that i didn't need? Is that right? Can't wait really, this will make the time go.:D
  • Hi everyone

Had a rather bad day today, but at least I'm still within budget, for now lol. Ended up having to buy some unexpected ladies toiletries today, and also bought some potatoes, bananas and some bread, and spent £ 7.02 in total. That means I have £ 11.94 left for the month, but at least I should now definately have everything for the rest of the month - I hope.

Will see how the rest of the month goes, and it's not even Feb yet. Well done everyone, hope it all goes well. If all else fails I still have £20 worth of pigsback waitrose vouchers, so might have to use them if needs be, but am seriously hoping not to.

    Cheers

    Morning all
another smallish spend to add to my sig shortly.
Had to go out yesterday and on the way back i picked up some milk, £1.27  and that was on offer.
Hopefully that will be the last thing i need before the weekly shop at the weekend.
Ill be updating the freezer stock sheet and doing a new mealplan later, i`m trying to find some different meals that cost less but we keep eating similar stuff so i need to do some more hunting around on here.
    Catch up later
Planning on starting the GC again soon :p
