Gaah! Hideously over budget this month, by about £20 - I threw the receipt out so I can't go check. Got my brother coming down next weekend though, so going to have to shop and cook like I'm feeding a bottomless pit. I'll rty again for march though, but I'll make it £70 please lil_me. xx

Spent £ 19.51 on the 23rd and then £ 5.98 on 25th and decided to end challenge on 27th as DH complained there was NOTHING in the house  - there was tonnes in the cupboards and freezer but the fridge was bare :rotfl: .

So total spend for 27 days of Feb was £ 209.34 - quite a bit over budget but I am pleased enough !

Now off to March challenge to be challenged again !!:D

Have been lurking for a while, too ashamed to post!

Oh dear February became a disaster...blown the budget...and that doesn't include the two cars both needing lots done at their MOTs!!

Lil_me put me down for ...wait for it: £574.99! (was aiming for £400!!)

Mrs M, put me down for £400 for March...trying hard again (22/02 to 21/03).

I know I should be able to do much better.

We only have two boys (well, young men really!), they are both over 6 feet tall, aged 15 and 18 and have bottomless pits! I do lots of baking, and buy locally when I can. We did have a free-range chicken for £10 (!!), and it only lasted for one meal...DH was cooking and serving, and only later did I discover, there was nothing left for a curry! Still, I did make a large pot of soup which did us all for three lunches.

This month I did a couple of big shops at Lidl and then Mr T next door on the 22nd, and we are still working through a lot of the stuff I got then. We are having more NSDs which stops the drip-drip of spending when I don't really need to. Hopefully this will help with the overall monthly spend.

I bake a lot, but it goes as fast as I make it! I made 2 dozen buns, a tray of flapjacks and 67 Twinks Hobnobs on Friday night...and they were all gone by Sunday night! As I was on "holiday" yesterday (Mother's Day), I didn't bake, so they have gone to school with lots of sugar-free oat biscuits which are a week or so old. They don't like them so much, but at least they will have something to eat in addition to their sandwiches (HM bread, pnut butter and HM jam), peperami, cheese, toms, cucumber, grapes &
    apple!

Must stop now and take the dog a walk...the hailstones have at last stopped, everything is white, so it will be very pretty if cold!

Must get this next week's menus finalized...that certainly helps cut spending costs too.

Hope everyone is doing better than me...has the March thread started yet? I haven't had time to read what I have missed on this one.

I will try to pop in every day or so. and keep posting my spends..that might keep me on track!

    M

  • Oh dear...had a very busy month and well overspent by at least £80!!!! However, we had people over for Sunday Lunch for 3 weekends out of 4 so fed a total of 15 extra mouths so maybe I should not be so hard on myself.(and of course I made 2x roast beef, 1 x roast pork so not the cheapest of meals! And made soup, dessert, bought wine although I was given lots of After Eights (yum) and some nice flowers. Next time they'll be getting pasta with garlic and Parmesan!)

On the plus side, we should be getting invited over for at least 3 meals as a family, so all swings and roundabouts really. And the two times I was really, really tempted to have a takeaway (usually spend about £20) we had a frozen pizza (cost £2) and made some really good fillet steak (about £8:eek: but less than expensive duck and pancakes from Chinese!)

So please put me down for £280 spend for Feb and (sigh) we'll go for £200 for March. Lots of stuff in the freezer though I suppose... Time to pour me a glass of red I think after all this housekeeping!!
