    Hi everyone

I am new to the forum, having been lurking for a couple of months. I would like to join in this challenge, and have kept totals for the previous 8 weeks.

I get muddled when reading the posts - there are so many! Could someone just give me a hand with something please?

How much is an economic spend for two adults? (All food, toiletries and cleaning stuff)

I have been trying to find some data online about what counts as "housekeeping" - but haven't found much. I feel the government must have some data about the actual cost of living.

Many many thanks - this thread is great.

Hi jj... and welcome to the GC.

There really is no real amount that is correct for any family of any size... All of us have different needs and requirements.

Sorry... not a definitive answer, I know.

What I will say though, is figure out how much you are spending each month on those items, keep receipts or a note of what your spends are, and reduce it by 10 -15 %... So if you spend £200 a month try for between £170 and £180 a month. Then if you are comfy at the reduce rate, you could try and reduce again by 10% and so on...

I hope this helps a little ... and good luck

Well done for volunteering MrsMC! You'll do a great job! My sig is now bang up to date (It was a mistake including the eBid charity auction buys as food, sorry) and have spent £7.29 today on milk, a whole chicken, 3 trays of chicken drumsticks @ 55p and a mince/potato meal (reduced to 35p). I now, definitely have £7.32 left to last the week.
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Ooops a daisy, I forgot my spend in the chemist the other day:

DS prescription is free, but the cashier was marking huggies baby wipes down for a £1. I tried to resist in that I prefer pampers, so she brought out two packs, one which had the plastic box that you get from the bounty packs at the hospital. Anyway, rang the first one up and then I realised that I didn't have enough cash:mad: , but she said she would accept my card :o , so rang the second one up, and the grand total was £1  because in additon to being reduced to £1.00 (usually £2.25 odd) they were also BOGOF :rotfl: .

Don't mind going another £1 over budget for that !

I've had 3 NSD in a row this week :j . Thursday when I took the children swimming I went to get my usual tea from the vending machine, took a sip and it had sugar in it. Complained (nicely!!) to the receptionist who had a look in the machine, then said they didn't have any without sugar (well don't put it in the no sugar one then  ). She gave me a refund. Today I only spent £3 in Poundland, but forgot to get milk and bananas, which we desparately need. May have to send hubby out tonight, ooh that's near the off licence and Chinese :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Oh and CTFG is of course Casper TFG but the name being so long was such a pain to keep typing and it stuck out further on the list so I shortened it and left it in it's real alphabetical place, because that's just me :rotfl: and I prefer it to be left there, just incase you find that confusing, you can change it to suit you of course. I am about but just so busy to commit to doing it with starting studying again, doubt you'll have any problems but if you do drop me a PM and I will get back to you when I can.
One day I might be more organised...........

    Hi!

Can I join you as well for the March Food Challenge. My budget will be £90 for March for one person. I have deducted £30 since I am going away for a week.

This month I will hopefully just go even or perhaps £2 or so over, which is much better than normal.

Good luck to everyone, I have enjoyed reading your messages.

Ok I've lapsed today. Had a stinker of a cold and really couldn't be bothered to cook at all. So I bought ready meals from Marks and spencers. £5.59 wasted. Oh well. xx

Just been and bought most of what I need to finish off the month and souuld hopefully only need a few odd things during the week.

I seem to have managed to get through my first challange unscathed. I am looking forward to my next attempt.

I have been using cash all the time which I am sure has made all the difference to me, though I think I will only really be OS when I can leave the plastic at home without panicing:rotfl:

Off to make Hob Nobs and put on yet more washing - all the work stuff today - then I think I will start on next months plan, the earlier the better I suppose.
