  • Hi everybody, I did a small shop at tesco on Wed evening, but I have now gone over budget for the month by £2.99. I know it is not much but will still have to buy milk before payday on the 29th. Disappointed that I haven't stuck to budget, but this is my first month on this challenge so will have to see how next month goes. Well done to everyone who is coming in under budget!:D

Sorry if I appear dim but do you just throw dried lentils in with the meat or do they need soaking before? Also how much can you put in unnoticed into, say, a 4 portion shepherds pie or spag bol?
    Thanks.

PLEASE PUT US DOWN FOR £325 FOR MARCH

Not dim at all, the only dumb question is the one never asked.

I use the orange lentils and just throw a good handful in along with ¾lb mince and the rest of the stuff, usually add 2 carrots grated as well, this is for the 4 of us. I usually take out a portion before serving which is used for a lunch for DH as well.

I do also serve HM bread with all meals like this to act as a filler.

Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.

Dh has just phoned asking if we need any Olive Oil, I use quite alot so said yes, he's bringing home some that his boss was given as a pressie and they're splitting it between all the workers so I should get 3 bottles.

    I love free stuff!!!

    Hi
I've been very good this week and kept out of the shops since a minor slip up in Morrisons (£6) on Monday.
I think I have everything planned until the end of the month and will just need a few small bits and pieces to keep me going, dog food being the obvious one!

Won't be around on the weekend to check how we're all getting on so good luck to everyone - just a week to go now!
  • hey all. my last day at this job today, start the new one on monday.

spent another £17 since i last wrote i think, been really busy this week but will hopefully be able to do a proper catch up soon.

    keep truckin all. :D
Trying to be good, not always succeeding. :A:beer:
  • A quick update on spending. Just been and done my Morrisons shop and have another £15.36 to add to my total.
There were some fantastic reductions, tho, so I'm well happy. Will have a couple of bits to take me into March now. :D

Along with the bread, milk, cereals, pasta and rice.. I also got:

2x chicken and mushroom pies (huge) £2.69 reduc to 55p each
A eat smart quiche lorraine £1.69 reduc to 35p
6 pork sausage rolls £1.35 reduc to 35p
Cheeseboard (loads of lovely ones  ) £4.69 reduc to 99p
    4 x spring rolls £1 reduc to 35p
    Spinach 98p reduc to 49p
Baking potatoes 1.39 reduc to 29p

Also got a huge pk of cooking bacon pieces for 70p and some cheap fruit.

Have divided the cheeses up and frozen most. That will keep us going for lunches and treats in the eve in March. The hard cheeses will be used for cooking.

Egon - Sorry to hear you're down. It is so hard managing on your own with kiddies at that age, they are exhausting, aren't they? We all feel for you. ;)

Will have to get last few bits from Tesco tomorrow, need more yeast, flour, coffee etc but should come in on budget this month. Get my first lot of next months money next Friday.

    Away to update my signature.

Will be setting my budget at £135 for March.

    AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE   £115.93/ £250

  • Didn't come within budget I'm afraid - did really well until the week before my month end - ending up being around £70 over budget!! On a positive note though that is still way under what I usually spend so that makes me happy:j . I am going to go again for £250 again this month, as even though I most probably will overspend it keeps me on the straight and narrow and makes me try and keep to this figure.

Good luck everyone for the coming month!

MRSMCAWBER you are more than welcome to do it. I just haven't got the time at the moment which I have realised when trying to fit in working on the February list.

Pinkwinged or Squeaky will post the new thread on about the 28th I think, keep an eye open for it. Then all you need to do is post a reply and include the list, then comes the hard part, keeping track of everyone!

You could copy the names from there, delete the totals then add new totals and any newbies if needed, already in alphabetical order for you which should make it easier (took me forever)
One day I might be more organised...........
