Just bought some eggs from the market today. Jamie / Hugh would not agree as I don't think they are free range. They were only £1 for a dozen though. Gonna do a shop at tesco's this weekend. Will have to see what my budget is like after that!Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

If they have a number printed on them you can tell if they are free range or not. The number is in the following format:
1UK12345
The first number is 1 = Free Range, 0 = Organic, 2 = Barn, 3 = Battery Farmed
UK = Origin, 12345 = Farm ID

Well I'm definitely way over budget this month!!!!! I spent nearly £4 yesterday and another £40+ today-I have no defence, apart from i have bought enough cat food to last into next month-the same with potatoes and eggs and various other stuff that will not be used/consumed until march- let's just hope that I manage to come in under budget in March. I shall set it up £10 to £200 again and hopefully do much better than this disasterous month!!! Will update my sig when I've rummaged through my handbag and found my receipt again (i did get £5 of morrisons savings stamps!!!)GE 36 *MFD may 2043

"I have some leftover Roast Beef. Can anyone tell me what to do with it? I don't really eat sandwiches, and the littles don't really like chewing beef....
Egon"
I like to thinly slice the beef and lay it an oven proof dish and cover with (leftover) gravy. Cover dish with foil and heat in oven gas4/180C for about 20 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes - use as much butter as you can spare and add about two tablespoons of chopped parsley (fresh or frozen). It's delicious and a nice change from cold meat and salad on a Monday night especially in the winter.0 -
Good evening to you all!
Is February a long month, despite being the shortest, or is it just me? There's still another full week to go and I've only got £7.03 left out of the £100 budget! I only had to go get toilet rolls and eggs today but ended up spending extra on digestive biscuits because I hadn't enough time to bake today! I blame work for surplus spending on food! Lack of time = pay for convenience = costs a fortune in 'hidden' costs to keep a job. Still, too late to worry about it now, the biscuits (3 packs for £1.20) are already in the cupboard. I think all I'll need for the rest of the week will be milk and I am still hopeful of coming in under budget, even if it is by only a penny or two. :rotfl:
Egon - leftover beef would go into home made 'chow mein' here and, if you don't have noodles, spaghetti makes an OK alternative. Fry up some onion, peppers, mushrooms, whatever stir-fryable veggies you can find, and add some Soy Sauce (I always have a bottle in stock) plus whatever seasoning you prefer. Add the beef, complete with some gravy, quick fry & mix then serve over noodles with chopsticks for added fun factorI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Same here, my OH works away 2/3 days a week so DD and I eat things like this, he would eat them (eats anything) but he'd have to have meat with them, plus he eats more than DD and I put together so its great to have a cheap few days when he's away

Evening everyone
Egon... you could make it into beef spread for the little ones.. just wang it in the processor with cream cheese-you can use butter/marge -but i use cream cheese to reduce the fat.., seasoning (i add horseraddish or mustard too) oh and it freezes
or how about savoury meat roll ?
blitz the meat and add it to leftover mash, add 1 raw sausage -skinned, a chopped onion (zapped in the micro)and mix with your hands until its even....
roll out shortcrust pastry, and treat it like a swiss roll..whack it in the oven until golden mmmmmmm
you only need about 4oz and 1 sausage and it should feed loads...an old recipe my mum gave us as kids and its still a fave -and she learnt it at school during the war...
Its great even for those not keen on pastry as all the pastry inside absorbs the meat juices
You could obviously make it into pies or pasties instead..
Mrsbartolozzi...
You aren't on your own... i amaze myself with how far imprepared to walk to save a few cents :rotfl: mind the extra exercise is why i go shopping little n often;)
yes please.. im a devil for lists n thingslet me at those cupboards
.. i have spent the evening writting each week on a page with a break down of what i need, and then turned it into a shopping list for each week..very sad i know
.. and it looks like i will be able to come in just under the €50 -if only i can resist the bloomin whoopsies .....
So if anyone sees extras appearing on my posts... yell at me PLEASE-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Hi folks, I,m going to say say I,ve spent another £15 on groceries. I dont think I,ve spent as much as this but totaly lost track of myself. I could trundle on for the rest of the month with whats in the kitchen but have too many coupons going out of date soon, so I,m going to do a biggish shop tomorrow. This will put me way over budget for this month but hopefully reduce greatly my March challenge. I know I,m doing this all wrong but it,s a matter of couponing pride, and knowing how my workload is going to be in the next few weeks.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o
