Your bill without the discount would've been £80, still half of mine :o

Thanks for that...the discount has made a huge difference then and kept me under budget.:j

  • Bloomin heck MrsMc - you've got it all organised early this month. I've been pottering about with 3 things on my list so far... I'd better get my back into it.

Another £3.99 spend down at Aldi this morning. I've overlooked Aldi in the past but I shan't again. Their veg is so fresh looking. Was really pleased with the price of it too.

    I got:

59p Pk of 3 massive peppers (DS2 rolling eyes as I rummaged to get the biggest :D )
    59p Pk vine tomatoes
29p Jar ground coriander (half the price of Morrisons)
25p Strawberry fromage frais (DS2's treat)
    68p lettuce
    29p pk egg noodles
    £1.30 4 pints whole milk (will 1/2 and 1/2 that later ;) )

Well thats the milk and veg stocked again. Will have to go bake some bread soon with my last sachet of yeast. Get my last weeks food money tomorrow so will have to restock baking items and get some coffee. (Run out :( )

Back to seriously menu planning now and stop just thinking it will do itself.

Keep up the brilliant work everyone. ;)

This really speaks for itself except on certain of the mince nights I will sub something if I've got it in the freezer(especially the whoopsies).
Last night should have been Shepherds Pie but I would have had to go to butchers 20 mile round trip so I used haggis from freezer instead.

    Breakfasts

Both the boys and DH have cereal during the week
I usually have fruit & toast
We usually have eggs on Sat and full cooked on Sun.

    Lunch

During the week DH & DS2 have pack up usually sandwiches or wraps but DH sometimes takes leftovers to heat in micro at work.
DS1 has lunch money so buys from the school canteen.

I usually have leftovers or HM soup, sometimes a sandwich.

At weekends all have either a sandwich or soup on a Sat; we don't have lunch on Sun as breakfast is late enough to be Brunch, and boys will snack on fruit and yogurt if hungry.

    Snacks

The boys will snack on fruit, yogurt, baked goodies and sandwiches.

    Week 1

    Sun - Roast Pork
    Mon - Chilli & Rice
    Tues - Beef Casserole
Wed - Fish Portions & HM chips
Thurs - Swt & Sour something & Noodles
Fri - Jacket Potato/ HM soup
    Sat - HM Pizza

    Week 2

    Sun - Roast Chicken
Mon - HM Meatballs & spagetti
    Tues - Pork Casserole
    Wed - Mince & potatoes
    Thurs - HM fishcakes
Fri - Jacket Potato/ HM soup
    Sat - HM quiche

    Week 3

    Sun - Roast beef
    Mon - Lasagne
Tues - Liver & Sausage Casserole
    Wed - Shepherds Pie
Thurs - Fish Portions & HM chips
Fri - Jacket Potato/ HM soup
Sat - Leftovers night (any leftovers are put into freezer in portionsused on this night as a buffet) if not enough will have HM pizza

    Week 4

Sun - HM Meat Pie/ Lamb
    Mon - Spagetti Bolognese
Tues - Toad in the Hole
Wed - Chicken Curry & HM chips
    Thurs - HM Fish Pie
Fri - Jacket Poato/ HM soup
    Sat -HM Burgers

All of these meals are served with veggies or salad from the organic box I get, along with substitutions from the freezer for the veggies the boys don't like, (peas, green beans, sweetcorn from freezer).

I always have bread on hand if anyone is hungry and needs filling up.

I hide lentils etc in mince dishes to bulk these out and decrease the meat portion, also the basic tomato meat sauce that is used for alot of our mince dishes has not only lentils but also grated carrot added in.

I have found this is an easier way of doing our meals and still give some flexibility in that the casseroles and the like can be made with different sauces each time so are never exactly the same.

This plan also fits with my 2 weekly shopping as I can see exactly what meat etc I need to buy if I haven't already got it in the freezer from a stock up shop in school holidays (lunch money goes into a freezer stock kitty during school hols).
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Sorry I copied and pasted my freezer list which didn't quite work so I deleted it.

That's a good idea with the dinner money going into a kitty for freezer stock up in the hols. I have yet to work out how I'm going to fund the odd costco visit or the chance of a local half lamb, or a binge in Julian graves!

£21 in tesco yesterday. Just looked in the fridge and can't for the life of me see what we could have for dinner tonight. :D I think I am suffering batch n freeze fatigue, my mind has gone blank when it comes to cooking.

Hooray - payday tomorrow and I've managed to spend £48.73 out of my budget of £50 :j

Not decided on next month's budget yet - need to have a look through cupboards and see what I need. Am well stocked up on toiletries and cleaning products so should be nearly all food. Have to see if I can find an Aldi as those fruit & veg prices are brilliant!
Has anyone tried Netto? There's one of them near where I work but I've never been in.

Some great menu plans there, full of admiration of how you can eat that well (with meat) on so little!
Sorry for the fed up post earlier - I've done a spreadsheet now of all our grocery spends for the past 2 months in an effort to see where I'm going wrong, but still no joy  I pointed out to OH that if he eats that muesli in a month that's a quarter of a kilo a day, and he just shrugged his shoulders!
I'm definitely, definitely in for March, not going to let this beat me! I'm going to put my budget at £200 :eek:which feels like failing, but I need to come in under budget first and then start to reduce, no point in always chasing my tail
EDIT: you know what, scrap that idea, that makes me feel even worse than going over budget! We WILL spend £160 or less in March, even if I have to eat my own arm :D
Good luck to everyone for the rest of the month, and to those starting on March (I'll start on the 1st).
