I learned my lesson last month at TOTM!
Didn't dare go near any shops this month. I found myself trying to convince myself that I did need at least 2 pairs of new shoes and as it wasn't food that was OK!!

Avoided temptation by clearing out summer clothes and making list of what I do need this year.

Really pleased with shopping bill this month, but DD has been away with friends family on hols since last Thursday, Don't teenagers eat a lot! cant believe how much food has not been needed whilst shes away.

    Also been nice and quiet:)

Just spent £13.50 on fish and chips for dinner tonight shocked-smiley-9451.gif. We were coming home from swimming and OH thought it would be a good idea to have chips. The children got really excited so I gave in... . But I did make some tortillas for lunch today and had them with ham and cheese and made a quasadea (sp?). They were lovely. So a big sign-smiley-7167.gif to MrsMcawber.

I've only got £60.11 left for the rest of the month  . I'll really have to tighten my belt, we do have plenty of food left in the freezer & cupboards. It's my oldest sons birthday on Saturday and we've planned to go to a chinese buffet, can't disappoint the kids now can I?! As this is part of a birthday treat I won't include it in the budget. (phew, got away with that one!)

pls can someone tell me how to make quesadillas?? (SP), my hub wil be so chuffed!!! and think that i have become a domestic goddess!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I had food poisoning at the weekend from some fish I've had in the top shelf of the freeezer for about 18 months. Bleurghhhhh!! As I was still too green to cook on Saturday, Hubby took the kids for a Dominos Pizza and blew £21

  • Bought some milk, cheese and cornflakes today so I have updated my total spend. Only £13.50 left. Will be an interesting last week of the month!! Good to hear how everyone is doing:T
  • my total spend so far is £139.35. I still have meat in freezer to use up then I can do a defrost. Failed badly with personal spending this month but we all do that from time to time. I am so organised with food spending its become a way of life now, have a stew cooking in SC overnight for tomorrow and I dont even work now but like to have my meal plan and pick from that each day. I have trimmed my outgoings so much that I am no worst off than when I was working and wasting money on 'must haves' wonder creams and food waste.
At last I have become a good cook and would never buy ready meals again, I can throw something together from cupboard if in a hurry. Well done everyone on here, you are an inspiration.:T

Next month i am going to set my budget , withdraw the money from the bank and only use cash so i can visically see what i'm spending and saving and at the end of the month put it in my savings account. using the debit card is slowing my speding as much a scash will i hope.
I think this is a good idea - i think ill do it for all my budgets - food, petrol etc cos although ive gone over budget tyhis month last month i spent £400 so its actually a £150 saving but i dont know where that money is. I think i went overbudget cos i had to buy some extra bakeware to become truly OS not to mention excess bags of flour to make HM bread and MRSMs tortillas!!!

The way I make them is like this:-

on one tortilla place your filling, it's always good to have cheese in it. Place another one on top, then either microwave for a couple of minutes (this method is trail and error) or put in a frying pan and then flip over. Put on a plate and then cut into wedges. Very simple. I sometimes get tortillas and put filling in them then fold the edges over to make parcels, then place them in my George Foreman for about 8- minutes (again timings are by trial).

    Hi Guys

I've finally caught up with all the posts on this thread - well done to everyone who's managing to stay within budget - there have been some great success stories this month!

And thanks for all the tips for shopping at Lidl and Aldi, there's a Lidl quite close to me, so I'll give it a try at the weekend
