    Hi theamazinggem

I just had a quick look at your budget and, I hope you don't mind me commenting, but £20 seems quite high for cleaning/toiletries. Have you had a look at the old style index for cheaper cleaning stuff (vinegar, soda crystals etc etc.?)

TBH, I havent got into the habit of using vinegar etc YET, I'm working on it, but we usually spend less than £10 a month on cleaning/toiletries (but then maybe we are just mucky b*ggers!):o .

How many of you are in your budget? There's only the 2 of us and neither of us are fussy about branded struff, so perhaps that would make a difference. Maybe some of the others may have some suggestions for you.

    Cheers
    Bobby

ok.. I'm in.. hubby gets paid last working day of the month.. so.. I'm going to be difficult and go from today.. as it has been a long month. In my head we spend about £600 a month.. so the grocery challenge in partnership with my spending diary should see that I am correct in my estimate.. but I would like to try to get it below £500 IF I can..

    Thats for 2 adults, 8 locusts, 2 cats (£12 a month) and 2 bunnies. (£10 a month).

I don't need any toiletries or cleaning stuff this month either.. we are still showering our way through the christmas presents!

The little locusts have packed lunches which are included in the budget.. but the 3 oldest have hot dinners which has a separate budget.

Must attempt sausge rolls this month.. that is my challenge to myself..

  • yeah you're right, we won't spend anything like that on toiletries i don't think, it's just what's left over from the rest of it, and i haven't checked what we DO need. we've made a pact not to buy shampoo etc til we've used up all we've got, so that's good, so it's mainly loo/kitchen rolls, hair dye (prob £10 on it's own) and that's about it...

    well that's the idea anyway.

    I'm in this month too....
January started well and then I ended up over budget by about £20 due to unexpected visitorsfor a week.

Not to worry - I'll try again.
This month its £100 for all food, dog food, cleaning stuff and toiletries.

That's just for me and a greedy little dog!

    Good luck to everyone else.

I forgot it was you who had the 8 kids and really believed you had pet locusts! I sat here for a couple of seconds thinking through the packed lunch / hot dinners comment and was trying to work out if there was some kind of joke in there *slaps forehead*. Got there in the end!!

Hello my little fruit bats! Not been in for a couple of months as it was festivities time and everything goes up the lum for me but I,m back with a vengance (and very little money). I had a bit of good luck just before christmas and won a meat hamper and a real xmas tree, so thats been keeping me going for a while. I now intend to spend around £60 on groceries including my lunch at work, which is a bit of a failing of mine. I will do a big shop very soon. I hope this will be plenty. I will try to drink more of the speciality teas I bought on a whim, to cut down spends on normal teabags, and drink more of the hot water and lemon that was in the bum diet in the paper this Sunday. My waste has crept up a bit recently so thats another thing I have to get under control again, and looking out for moc,s has also fallen by the wayside.I,m in a right 2&8 aint I. This sounds like a confessional now.
