Hya Folks, not posted for a few days, and we have a new February post already! This has been my first month of the GC and though we are still spending a lot, it is still so much less than before.

    So Lil_me, Jan (31/12 to 22/01) was £396.10 out of £400 budget.

Put me down for £400 for Feb (23/01 to 22/02), lets see how we get on with a full month this time!

Already we have spent £115.50, but we were almost out of bread flour, tinned toms and OJ and other stuff. Hope to have a low spend for the next week....except for meat...aaargh!

NSD for me today...except for DS2's physio tonight...as well as music teacher...kids are soooo expensive, who can afford them!

  • Can i join in please?

I have followed the January GC closely and written down everything i have bought so i have an idea of what i will spend.

    Feb 29/01 - 25/02 £80

Thats for one person and one cat for food only. I don't cook at all at the moment so the idea is i will cook one 'real meal' a week probably on a Sunday and then freeze the other portions.
Eventually (hopefully) i will end up with a freezer full of actual meals and no longer have to buy ready meals. I even buy fresh mash!!!
    Feb GC £80/£120 :(

    March Grocery Challenge £100
    Spent so far £64.15
    Remaining £35.85

I would love to join in as well. I followed the thread in Jan but didn't post.
I'm going to try for £100. That's for myself, the OH, 3 dogs, one cat.
I still have oodles in the freezer but the store cupboards are going down. What's the best idea if I manage to empty a freezer - do I turn it off or fill it full of water in bottles. I'm a bit scared of turning it off as one of them is almost 10yrs old (I have 3 freezers mainly for the fruit and veg I grow). Will do a sig now I've found out where it is.
January food 175.00 spent 181.60 oops nothing left. £4000 challenge/3384.49 left
    heating oil £396.69,

I came in just slightly under budget for January. My budget for February is still £30 a week, so £120.00 for February please for me.

I am definitely back in for Feb, have found this really helpful....This time though I am upping the budget to £250 as I think I underestimated a lot for January....

Mine will run from the 1st of Feb till 29th (it is a leap year isnn't it) and will be for food/cleaning stuff/alcohol/toiletries for 2 adults 3 young children (2 in nappies) and a dog...

  • Hi everyone :hello:

Can I join in please? I read the thread and I'm impressed by everyone's efforts. I am trying to feed the family organically and ethically if I can too so quite hard especially after Hugh Fearnley whitsisface sending me on a chicken guilt trip last week...anyone watch it?

Anyway, there are 4 of us (2 kids, 2 adults but we all eat like adults) also little doggie but I have enough for her till the end on feb anyway. So I reckon £250 this month (already bought a veg box for this week) and have lots of staples stocked up, tins etc.

Look forward to this and making new friends on this boards..:)

 I can't believe this thread is so HUGE already!

Count me in for February on £250 for the four of us plus grumpy prawn loving cat. :D

I wouldn't have believed that we could eat - and eat well - for this kind of money six months ago - and I'm still not much of a cook, but I'm learning. :p

My long suffering family seem to eat all of my "experiments" uncomplainingly enough though. :D

I'm getting really good at guessing how much of stuff we'll need until the next shop so there's no "nipping out for something we've run out of and spending £20" nonsense.

I'm not kidding - the GC has changed my life. Thank you all. :T :T :T

    Love Jacks xxx :D

casper did you get a 2 quid gift card when you were overcharged at asda. this is their company policy and they should give you it without having to ask (but i usually have to:rolleyes: )

    Hi Chardonnay

Didn't know about this, but thanx for highlighting that for me, will ask next time. Maybe I should write to their head office and complain, maybe they'll do something about it because it's not the first time this has happened to me.

    Cheers

Count me in for £250 please; my month starts on the 25th and I've done £200 already stocking up the freezer etc, so just bits and pieces for the rest of the month.
