    Hi there savingfortravel

Yep you can freeze cheese..either throw the blocks in as you buy them, cut into "useable" sizes and bag and wrap -or grate into tubs/bags-so you can shove your hand in and get just what you want when you are cooking

    Afternoon everyone:hello: .

I tried to post a update yesterday but site went down and I lost my post.

Went shopping yesterday morning after I had dropped OH off at work.
    Spent just under £40.
Mainly on fresh fruit, veg, cat food.

Made a quorn chilli for tea on thurs. I was going to freeze the rest but OH enjoyed it that much that he asked if we could have it again for tea last night.

    Signature updated.

Oh dear - budget blown to smithereens! Weekly shop yesterday cost me £118.93 !!
Admittedly there were several items that only get replaced once in a while, and it did include 4 bottles of rather more expensive wine than usual, but...
Back to the drawing board, I think!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!
  • Just got back from trying out Lidls for my weekly shop, admittedly they didnt have all the things i normally get in Mr Ts but had adequate substitutes and what a difference in the price:j :j

Normally i average £50ish but only spent £33.61 in Lidls, will definitely be going there a lot more often

Good luck everyone, have updated my sig so hoping for a good week next week and might just match my challenge, good luck to you all with yours.
  • Lidls sounds pretty good. Never been but SIL says there's one about 20 mins away so may have to have a look. I normally nip to Netto or Aldi.

Another £5.54 spent on cereals, baking stuff, peanut butter, bacon, etc.
It is much harder this month with little leftover in the freezer and cupboards, isn't it? I noticed I'm not alone. Think I'm still adjusting to my new weekly payday instead of monthly.

    Away to update sig.

I've managed not to spend anything since monday!!! A no spend week (well 5 days)

Bought some fruit from the market today £1.43.
Also got 25 packets of mini pringles for £1, again from the market slightly out of date, but what OH doesn't know won't hurt him.
Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

  • Hiya all, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Wed/Thurs & fri have been NSD's for me. Spent a tenner this morning on a big leg of lamb for OH birthday tomorrow, his M&D are coming round and maybe his Bro & GF for tea so leftovers for curry/sandwiches will depend on how many I'm feeding  .

Takeaway for tea tonight as we're knackered and also because it doesn't come out of the GC budget :p

Next shop will be potentially on Tues but OH has asked me to stay in all day to wait on for a phone he is having delivered between 8am and 6pm  .

As I suspected, with extra visitors this weekend I have had to buy more milk. Also 'had' to buy the 4 litres of orange juice my DD1 had bought for a social event she organised yesterday and which were surplus to requirements! Much posher stuff than I usually buy but at least it's in the freezer and I won't have to buy any for the next two weeks. Have updated my sig. Still have about £55 to spend and only one big shop before the end of the month so I am still hoping to stay on track.

Have spent all day baking - spinach and ricotta cannelloni for tonight's dinner, apple crumble ditto, and a fruit cake and Twink' s hob nobs. My DH thinks he's died and gone to heaven as he doesn't usually get treats like this! Also bread in BM - which didn't rise properly - I think this batch of yeast is duff as it happened with the last one too.

Off to put my feet up for 10 minutes!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend folks.
  • Hi all,

I think I would love to join in with this as I know I spend way to much on food, we are a family of four DH and DS1 eat like its the last meal they will ever get, an hour or so later DS1 say " Im starvin " very kevin style.

Have a rough idea that I spend £400 per month on food:eek: . but includes all meals lunches bfast snacks ect.

My grant went into my bank on Friday, and would love to get food bill down to 300.
Im not sure that I could manage the challange but I am gong to try:T so start today, will be hard as its half term this week and money will need to last untill third friday of the month (payday) am I mad or what!
