so far we have a 48p difference..with me paying the extra grrrr:rolleyes:
All prices vary depending on the area and also the competition! We have a co op in one town, no other supermarket and its horribly expensive. In the next town there's a co op, a safeway and something else (?) and the prices are very much lower.
Its the same as house prices, petrol, and everything else, it all varies from place to place.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Morning all,
My total spend so far this month has been €208.05, leaving me with €91.95 to end of month...with DD2's baby definitely going to arrive this week we will have extra people around, so that might throw a spanner in the works...hopefully not.
For those with OH's who do not understand the concept of MS, I would suggest keeping them out of the shops and if that is impossible tell them that you will only pay for the item(s) you asked for, any extra has to come out of their own pocket...MikeD, before you have a convulsion, I have been married for almost 40 years to a man who refuses point blank to have anything to do with money saving and this is the only system that I have found to work...he still buys expensive deli stuff which is totally unnecessary and if there is only homemade bread will pay over €2 for a shop loaf!

Have had a better month than I thought. I cut down a lot on the ooh i'll just pop over the coop and get.......spending. When I was batch cooking last I cooked about 12 jacket potatoes, buttered them and froze them, ds has nearly eaten all of them, he is gluten free and has them for a snack:eek:. He isn;t greedy lol he is on his growth spurt and is constantly hungry, So I have bought a bag of baking spuds and am going to do the same.
Someone mentioned toilet rolls again, best value I know of is Farmfoods 9 for £2 and they are really good quality, and if anyone uses kitchen rolls Netto 89p for 4 again good quality.
I am going out soon so I will have to update my sig this evening, but my spend so far is £149.99 so £50.01 left so I think there is a fair chance I could do this if I am careful. My finances are work in progress.Normal veiwing will resume shortly0 -
Hi jackie_w,
I have a DS with a severe peanut allergy too - I do shop in Aldi/Lidl from time to time. All the packaging will have English somewhere but can be very small!
But like any other supermarket your mental list of what is OK grows each time, and the amount of time reading packets decreases.

Another 1 to try Jackie-w
HOT RED PEPPER SOUP
6 red peppers deseeded (ive used the odd yellow one as well in the past)
2 medium onions chopped
1 tablespoon of fennel seeds (optonal)
3 garlic cloves
1 red chilli desseded (i use chilli puree)
1 can toms
2 pints veg stock
2 tbsp wor. sauce
2 tsp tabasco
Fry onions and peppers in a drop of oil till soft. Add rest of stuff. Bring to boil and simmer for 10 mins. Blend. Sometimes i omit the frying bit and just boil it all up - works fine. I also leave skins on peppers. Try adding a dollop of very low fat cream cheese to make it a bit creamy. If you dont want it spicy leave out the garlic chilli and tabasco."With no money you start to discover your own inner resource" GK Chesterton2 adults, 3 children0 -
Hubbys birthday yesterday and we were meant to be going out to a restaurant paid for by my mum, just the 2 of us,but hubby felt a bit ill and called me from work asking me to cancel the dinner and do a last minute buffet for everyone instead, call everyone quick and tell them to come round afterall(this was at 2pm,guests expected about 6pm) .
So DD and I went to m&s then tesco on the way home from school to get the food for a buffet and stuff to make a birthday cake(didnt want to pay for a ready made one despite the short notice).
Extra spend that I wasn,t expecting but just £39.03 spend on everything for a buffet for 10 people including the birthday cake.Enough lefover for 2 dinners and some lunch,we can have the quiche or vegetable lattice with beans and the chicken drumsticks with savoury rice and french bread.
This is what I bought for the birthday buffet. All ready made just to heat up for quickness:o .

I also chucked some potatoes in the oven to bake. All the fruit in the house was added to the buffet table too to help make it look impressive but only a couple of apples and most of the strawberries were actually eaten so all back in the fruit bowl or fridge now.
It was quite a nice spread and looked just the same as it does when I spend ages organising it:p .
The cake was beautiful too.I had another box of cake mix at home so hubbys birthday cake was triple layer chocolate sponge with chocolate butter icing between the layers and around it all.White and dark chocolate shavings allover with the millionaires shortbread(I used 2 1/2 of the 4 slices)cut into quarters and placed around the top to decorate and divide it into 10 portions.I didnt use the chocolate buttons though, that would have been just too much !!!"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
