    Ta-Da!!!!

It`s arrived and i`ve put it all away:j
I rang cs again as i had two items with todays and tomorrows date on which i wasn`t happy with and they refunded the price, although they were only cheap items i still felt the need to call as next time they should get it right.
Altogether it has added up to £54.01 which leaves me well under budget and i have the dog food to split over the next few weeks which i don`t really need to do now as if i add most of the cost to this weeks budget to take me up to this months total of £160 then i only need to carry over £3.02.
I am happy now so Asda will get my custom again:D

I did however manage to order double the amount of onions OOPS
and i now have 4kg and some left over from last week
anyone have a decent recipe for onion soup or something else i can make to use them up?
Also the huge bag of smartprice pears with todays date on as looking at them they will not last at all and need using pdq or they will end up in the bin.

*goes off to clean kitchen with a happy grin*

PS i`m going to try for £15 for next week as an odd week before starting the March GC i know this will mess up my paydays again but if i`m not careful i will be doing June`s challenge in May :D

If I get excess pears I just cook them down like you would apples and then freeze until I'm making an apple crumble, then replace half the apples with pear.

    Evening everyone :D

Befrore i forget...and i will :p ..here is the recipe for the mandarin pancakes you get with crispy duck etc :-
    • 2.5 cups - 310g - 9 3/4oz plain flour
    • 2tsp caster sugar
    • 1 cup - 250ml - 8floz boiling water
    • 1tbsp sesame oil
    1. place flour and sugar in a bowl and pour over boiling water
    2. stir the mixture a few times and leave until lukewarm
    3. knead on a lightly floured surface to make a smooth dough
    4. cover and leave for 30mins
    5. roll it into a long sausage and cut into 20.. i weighed the mix and divided it and its roughly 25g if i remember correctly :p
    6. roll each into a ball and then into circles about 3" in diameter
    7. lightly brush one side of a disk with the sesame oil
    8. place another on top and roll until about 6" in diameter
    9. repeat so that you have 10 "double" pancakes
    10. heat a dry frying pan and place one pancake in..
    11. when bubbles appear, turn over and cook the 2nd side -press down with a clean tea towel
    12. they should puff up when done
    13. drop on a plate and when cool enough to handle they will peel apart
    14. keep them covered to save drying out
I know it sounds long winded but its very simple and quick to do ;)

You can make them in advance too, and to re-heat either steam them wrapped in a clean tea towel, or wrap in foil and place in a medium oven for a couple of minutes

  • Sorry funbrum it wasn't real butter he bought, it was can't believe it's not butter (I can) It's the only butter type thing he likes. It was in the co-op at £1.10 on bogof, but the guy said it ends this weekend.
curly cabbage the site has been montioned by a few people, it's brill for getting ideas for using up odds and ends. I'm no use at adding in links but it was www.livefoodhatewaste.com/recipes hope that helps.
    Grippy is my middle name!
  • Hi everyone,

That livefoodhatewaste website is brilliant. Have it saved now. :D Had lots of cabbage to use so I'm sorted with ideas now. ;)

Spent a huge £27.11 at Nettos tonight but can't believed how relieved I am to have cheese back in again. Even just a little bit and you can make a meal tastier.

    Off to update sig.

So far I've spent £192.19 out of a total of £300. £105.48 of that is food, £44.14 is "snacks" - I bought some bars of chocolate for the family as it's cheaper to buy the multi packs and they are being rationed out! £42.57 is cleaning stuff, etc, and nappies! I do wish my DD (age 3) would make an effort, but she's not interested yet. I have plenty of washing powder and fabric softener to last (it's gone up to 40p for 2 litres in MrT - it was 33p) I've got plenty of shampoo - half price so I got a couple. I did go to Tesco and I tend to get into siege mode when I go there - I've got a dozen tins of chopped tomatoes, a couple of jars of decaff, a couple of packs of value spaghetti. Basically the Value stuff which I like to have in. I also bought loads of stuff for lunchboxes for my DH and DS (who won't have school dinners despite the fact that we would get them free!)

I've spent the afternoon in the kitchen doing some baking. Two lots of brownies, one nutty choc chip cake, flapjacks and scones. Two loaves of bread rising. I also made a chilli for dinner, and put half of it in the oven. I chopped up all my onions and bagged them seperately for the freezer, as well as a couple of peppers which were going to go off.

Last night my eldest DD was having dinner with a friend, my DH didn't want any dinner, so I went to get a pizza for my DS. In the Co-op I found two which were £3.49 each reduced to 96p! I also found some cheese drastically reduced - five blocks of black pepper cheese at 70p each, one block of onion and chive at 70p and a block of roast onion and sage for 20p as its bbd was today! They've gone in the freezer for future use.

I'm going to do some meal planning with what I've got in so don't feel too bad that I've spent so much of my budget already. I want to make a couple of apple braids to go in the freezer, and some tortillas to go in the freezer too. With some good meal planning I should be OK.

    Hi,

I haven't been on for a while, as we all have been ill.

Our total for this month is now £204.78 out of £230. That leaves me with just over £25 for the next two weeks. ouch

DH is away for the next two weeks, so maybe it is achievable. The kids and myself don't need so much.

DS2 turns out to be another great eater. Only 7 mth and already downing tuna chowder!

Anyhow, I better see what has been going on over the last few days.

    Egon
I wish Germany had a website like moneysavingexpert!
  •  ..and i was doing sooo well:o
Just spent £32. I wouldn't mind if i really bought anything, but it was just 'stuff' an some chicken.

The price of meat has got ridiculous, going to have a serious look at being veggie, but then veggies are high priced too.

The only good thing about my £32 spend was the 15% discount i got cos DD works at the supermarket, otherwise i'd have been looking at nearer £40.

This is going to be really tight to come in on budget
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(
