I can't believe some of the down right nasty replies on this thread, shame on you people. The guy gets a job and wants to share his joy with the forum while giving a bit of hope to others in his position. Then he gets attacked, unbelievable.

Congratulations Dave on your new job, I hope it will go well for you:T:beer::jYou're a lot better person than some of the idiots on this thread.
Nasty replies? I don't see any nasty replies in here at all. Well... apart from you calling everyone idiots but there we go.

    I totally agree.

People have shown disbelief - as it all sounds far fetched, but no one has been nasty at all!
The opposite of what you know...is also true

You must have a very short memory. Here's what you said..."How on earth did it take 20 years? You emailing blank applications or something?"

Emailing blank applications? What a very stupid thing to say.

What is wrong with a cleaning job? Ok I have a first class honours degree in manufacturing engineering but the manufacturing industry in this country died years ago.

You have a FIRST CLASS degree in engineering from approx 1992 when degrees REALLY MEANT SOMETHING and you've never worked in 20 years!?

Sorry mate, I'm from West Mids myself & have a plethora of qualifications at degree & postgrad also (and admittedly some good work history, though I'm rarely asked to prove this. E.g stuff from yr 2000 to 2007) I'm struggling myself.....but......I quite simnply DO NOT BELIEVE YOU!

In 1992 you were a tiny elite in terms of qualification & 1st class to boot.

I'm not normally somebody who accuses people of lying on a message board but something isn't quite right about all this! LOL :rotfl:

No offence intended, just can't get my hat on!

I wouldn't say that's nasty TBH. It's just having a little non-malicious joke about the situation, at the end of the day I'd say 90% of people reading this thread quite simply can't comprehend the incredulity of it all.

agreed, this is comedy stuff! For the chap concerned I hope it isn't true! Yes I do understand some people are in unemployment turmoil, I'M ONE OF THEM! I also know folk who've not had an interview in years & I know the reasons why also (some their own fault, some just the unfortunate way things have turned out for them). Even 200 folk applying for 5hrs cleaning doesn't ring true, not much cleaning gonna get done in 1hr, is that 5 days a week!?

This is a wind up, right?

OK so it's not. Congrats. But what took you so long? That's more than half your potential working life gone, looking for work.
