It's a sign of the times. I live in the West Mids too which has a very high unemployment rate so hundreds apply for every job position.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -

Not heard of the recession then? There's 8 million working age adults unemployed and only half a million vacancies so I think I've done very well to get a paid job.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -

What is wrong with a cleaning job? What job do you do or let me guess...nothing because with your stinky attitude you're unemployable.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -

Thank you pink:) I start in a couple of weeks.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -
Congrats on getting a job but 20 years to get a 5 hour cleaning job?
What is wrong with a cleaning job? Ok I have a first class honours degree in manufacturing engineering but the manufacturing industry in this country died years ago.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -
Nearly 4 years here since my masters (during which I was seeking paid employment), 7 years since my degree. Think chances are I'll be in the same boat in 20 or 30 years, but the way I feel chances are I'll have committed suicide by that time. Granted I do have a disability which makes interviews go carp. I have an unpaid work experience placement, which I suppose is something to look forward to - but I need paid work.
I wouldn't consider 5 hours a week to be much either. Sure enough it's a move to paid employment but not much. Minimum wage I have no issues with and would take a minimum wage job at the drop of a hat, but only a full time one. Biggest problem is.... if it's a couple of hours a day, by the time you have travelled there, you've spent your wages and there's no point bothering - not sure you can even get WTC on those hours.
Even with a full time minimum wage job, you have to wonder if it's actually worth it financially after the cost of travelling to work. Partner recently lost her job, and all things considered, we're not actually all that worse off, with CTB, HB, and JSA. WTC was just a joke.
The job is only a few miles away and I cycle a lot so there will be zero travel costs.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -

20 year recession? Fact is, you either were not trying or doing something seriously wrong while applying. Then after all those years you just land a 5 hour cleaning job.. Not sure what you expected peoples reactions to be but I can't believe what im reading.0 -
Well 20 years unemployed or on benefit is a bit too much, maybe the OP like his/her volunteering job, is the OP attending a work programme provider and only doing 5 hours per week he/she will still have to attend and sign on too. Something fishy sounding to me.
But good luck with the job hope it works out well for you.0
