  • On the plus side. The house deposit fund is looking very healthy and will exceed what we need by the end of March. So I need a few swirly Martins for that :money::money::money:

Anything extra we save after that will be to do the place up. First on my list will be the kids bedrooms!

    I just need to focus

Well done on your house deposit CMD. Don't forget though that you will need to pay solicitors and searches etc. (oh wait I'm not sure how you do it "over there" :rotfl: ) Anyway you may need extra to pay for all the extras. I'm not sure if you have included that in your budget?

Thanks for the heads up Star. Yes solicitor, survey etc is all included in the €30,000 budget. I'm hoping it all won't cost as much as that. Anything over that is to make the place look great. I have the place done up in my head. So so sick of renting.

I'm glad you have already thought of that. It can be such a shock when you are not expecting it! It'll be lovely to have your own place again to decorate as you want.

Do you know what type of house you are looking for?

We are looking for a 4 bed semi-detached in a nice estate. Just somewhere nice to raise the kids really so they can play out on the road with their buddies. Would love the 4 bedrooms and the option to convert the attic into a studio/study for OH.

I think my kids do miss out a bit as they can't play out in the street like I did as we live on the main road through the village. It's too dangerous.

Very kind of you to offer the attic to OH. Don't think I would be as kind :rotfl:

Where we are now is too busy for the kids to play out, hence us wanting that when we do move! That's the way I grew up and I'd like the same for them

Oh dont worry, I'll shove a bed up there too. It will be multi functional!!!

  • Hi all,

We had a nice weekend. Took the kids to an outdoor adventure centre/lakes yesterday. Had some food out but I had underspent on the shopping so that was okay. Then OH took them to the beach this morning and we went to my sisters for lunch.

I told OH to google YNAB and he seems mightily impressed by it. He is going to download the free trial tomorrow but I'd say we will buy it. Love the idea that we can sync it with our phones. Think he finally might be getting onboard with the whole thing.

Sold some clothes on a local selling page so that will cover some of my nieces birthday presents which is great. Means I might have a healthy birthday balance in March, as opposed to a depleted one! April is not great re: presents. We have OH's parents 40th wedding anniversary, OH's birthday, my Granny, a colleague, my friend and our nephew. I really need to take some money over from the March budget. In March I have DS's birthday (have the present but need to pay for tea party), and my 2 nieces. Also friends of ours had a little girl so need to buy for them too. I might just cut back on our grocery shopping and offset that against the food cost for DS's birthday. Decisions decisions. At least we have no major birthdays in June and November!!!

I couldn't get in with YNAB so I made a similar one in excel. Although I will say there are always discount codes so have a look round and you won't have to pay full price. Sometimes it can be as low as £7.50. :D
