Passport delay

Submitted my passport and my sons a fortnight ago, just a simple renewal for us both.
Usually takes about a week.
Phoned today to check the status and they have not even been looked at yet. I asked how long and she said another 2 week minimum and that new passports are currently at a backlog of 6 weeks minimum.
For those travelling this summer you should start thinking of submitting sooner rather than later. Particularly those looking for new passports.

Just like they did to the Glasgow office 4 years ago.
If anyone is travelling soon - it is advisable to make an appointment for the fast-track or premium service - that way you will be guaranteed your passport on time.0 -

Going through the post office doesn't necessarily make it any quicker. They are supposed to make sure that the application is complete - but they can get it wrong and the passport is then delayed0

My girls replacements were back within a week! The new passports were actually back quicker than the old ones.0

My wife renewed hers 4 weeks ago, including a name change. That was via Newport and sent normal post not via PO checking service. It was returned within two weeks. Our marriage certificate took longer to come back though!!0
