sorry if you read that i implied that mine would be quicker if done at the post office, my MS must be playing my brain up today.

I meant that the counter staff told me that there is a 4 week delay, they just checked it for me.

Not at all :)- its just that a lot of people think that the Post Office Service is a guaranteed 2 week service - its not, its just a standard service like posting it. There is no guarantee.

ah right, the only reason i took it to post office is that they would send direct and not in the post ifyswim, so i know passport office would have it the next day, what happens to it after is in the hands of the gods

I sent off for my renewal on 31/5, normal service. I wonder what the chances are of getting it back before 13th July are? I thought I'd have enough time, wish I'd fast-tracked it now.

I'm really panicking now - didn't realise Dh's passport only had 5 months to run & we need 6 months for our holiday that's already booked - sent off on the 21/5 & we're supposed to be flying out on the 9/6 - looks like we won't be able to go & will have to forfeit our money too. I'll be ringing them on Wednesday but I dont have much hope - Post Office didn't warn of any exceptional delays - think ours have gone to Durham if that makes any difference :(
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

The dowager Mrs Bob the Saver sent off her renewal and got it back in 2 weeks, but that was a 3 weeks ago.

We sent an adults renewal and new babies passport off on the 25th may through post office check and send. We have gone onto government website with the tracking number and had a email reply saying received and going through examination process.

Were hoping to go on our jollies 15th JUNE.... I know left it late but it was a last min decision to decide to go on holiday.

Anyway we phoned passport central office yesterday who then confirmed its in the final checking stages, and told us to phone again on wednesday...

we were told we CAN upgrade to the one week turn around and pay the extra over the phone and they will send it within 2 days and they said we would get it next friday....

I said to the other half, they have probably put a note on our records now saying not to send them in hope that we phone up next week and pay the extra as they also know we want to go on holiday 15th june, but then again I can be very cynical at times. :-)

I called again yesterday and mine are still the the examination process. Which is odd since they are simple renewals, it seems that even for renewals the whole process of checking and verifying is as scrupulous as for first timers.

I was told that it is likely I will get mine back by the end of this coming week which is a 3 1/2 week turnaround.
That said, she couldn't guarantee that and stood by the fact it could be anything up to 6 weeks.

Will update when I get them back.

Call them first thing Wednesday morning and get them fast-tracked (I assume they are closed now until then?). They do a 1 day service that is a lot more expensive than normal - but you need to weigh up whether it's worth that much to not miss your holiday.

In all fairness, the Passport office say it takes a minimum of 3 weeks anyway - and you've done it during a double bank holiday period at the beginning of what I imagine is the busiest time of the year for applications!

I hope this is a flippant remark, as it's quite offensive to govt staff to suggest that we might delay an application to generate extra revenue. If I worked for IPS I'd be quite peeved at the remark.

    Get a grip.

If you are public sector you hold the country to ransom quite regularly to generate yourself extra income.... It was quite obviously a joke, get a sense of humour :D
