something else to check.
Switch the laptop on, and immediately press the F2 key a few times. This should open the system BIOS screen.
On one of the screens it should tell you details of the internal hard drive. What does it say?
You should edit your last post to remove that partial licence key

That's the boot manager, not the BIOS, although it surprises me to see Windows 7 listed, seeing as the HD is allegedly faulty.
What happens if you press the Enter key with Windows 7 highlighted? How do I add a signature?0 -
Have just pressed the key to enter in to Windows and...........waiting....afraid the same messages as before:(
Will try the F2 on start up again to see if I can get to the BIOS screen - think i'm in it now - grey screen , blue tabs at the top with info/main/security/boot/exit
Sturggling to find any details of the Internal Hardrive though - any pointers??0 -
Either on the Main tab or Boot Sequence maybe? How do I add a signature?0

The only thing I can find is on the info tab where its says:-
HDDModel Name : None
HDD serial number : (blank)
ATAPI Model Name : XXXXXXXXXXXX
Are you thinking best to go with the purchase of the caddy and test the Hardrive that way??
Thx, richard0 -
You have a PM.
Oh and while you're sitting at you new PC, it would be prudent to create system rescue/restore disk(s) for it!How do I add a signature?0 -

This is the bit (highlighted) that serves to confirm what we already thought, that the hard drive isn't being seen by the system.
When you looked to see if the disk was inserted OK, did you actually remove and replace it?
i would still go down the caddy route (although they are available cheaper than £12 - see my post here)How do I add a signature?0 -
Many thanks for the PM - do you think it's probabaly best to order the caddy now to see if the current HDD (is that whats stands for harddrive?) is repairable and then touch base in a couple of days when it arrives??
Thanks so much for your help today, Richard0 -
Sorry - ignore my last post - missed your last message in between!
When I checked the harddrive I did actually unconnect then re-connect it so I'm assuming its possibly damaged btu you still think the purchase of the caddy would be best?? (if I do have to buy one more than happy to gift it to you as doubt I will ever need it again!)
