I'm a big fan of Prof Richard Wiseman (keeping the Herts theme here). He covered something about this in one of his books, most likely 59 seconds.
This website describes articles describing how dog owners survive better after heart attacks. Not sure cat owners should read it though!
Actually the same book advises the best way to ensure your wallet gets returned if it's lost. Apparently you just need to stick a photo of a baby in it.
Dogs require exercise, cats don't.
On a purely emotional level i think i find the cats more rewarding. E.g. Had a terrible night last night and day to day ( hi winds ripped doors off barn so the fox waltzed in, the horse issue in the weather and with old horse in particular , trees coming down etc. the cats snuggled with me as i caught up with sleep and purred over the wind noise and warmed me up.
If i could only have one or t'other it would probably be the cats. Beore i was ill and i wa more acive and travelly would have been a harder call....dogs are more portable!0 -

I would never, ever, ever have an affair, though have had open relationships. If you do end up with someone with history the important thing to realise is that they are not second hand, they are prewarmed.0 -

Thank you for these links, they're wonderful! :j:j Am more of a dog person in general (labs!) but do appreciate cats and the comfort they bring. I'm allergic to all of them though - never realised until I moved out of home and the constant cold cleared like magic)Emergency savings: 4600

*raises hand*
My sister thought had the 'second hand' mindset (single mum with a child) and it affected her happiness for years. Thankfully she got over it and is happily in a relationship with someone who has his own history.Emergency savings: 4600
