Sorry, it wasn't phrqased as quite enough of a question for me to put it as an 'answer this now' and then of course when I was doing my next sweep of posts it had rather dropped off the radar (we definitely need better weather to slow down the posting!)

DW is generally ok although she does have a tendancy at first to show fear and almost run away shrieking. This means I have to do a lot of 'being friendly to dogs' to show the kids there is nothing to be scared off and convince them that running away shreiking is not the logical response. Strange really as I don't really like dogs and subconsciously see them as being a bit dirty and not something I would chose to touch or be licked by (am I sounding a bit aspie for the second time this morning?) but I ignore all that and give them a scratch/rub/stroke as apporpriate whilst showing how you can use your hands to stop them jumping up in to your face which I hope the kids are seeing and learning from.
Michaels, i asked a bit back, but either you don't want to answer ( fair enough) or didn't see....how does your wife cope visiting friends with dogs, how scared is she? How do you 'manage' it?
    I think....

    i love you PN

when i was at school, the school used to organise school trips to stratford to watch shakespeare plays. as it was a boarding school and it cost £2 to go, i went, because otherwise you were stuck at school doing homework (or schoolwork as it should have more accurately been called, as you were not at home). plus you could usually sneak a couple of pints in before or during the interval.

however, i just never understood what was going on. basically a load of people standing around talking a foreign language and the audience laughing politely occassionally (whilst clearly not understanding the so-called "jokes").

comedy moves with the times, and shakespeare is not funny anymore. it probably hasn't been funny for a couple of hundred years, and in fact i doubt anyone ever found it funny.

stewart lee is funny. shakespeare is jibberish, and the actors spit on you if you're too close to the stage.

if someone updated the screenplay and put, say, leonardo di caprio and claire danes in the lead roles then i'd probably watch it for at least 10 minutes before going to the bar.

I think people laugh at the moments where they think they're supposed to laugh. I also think that there is an element of snobbery in theatre which you'll always struggle to get rid of.

Despite this, I have really enjoyed the plays I have seen. The contributions to english language, the drama, and the stories (& indeed the relevance of these stories still today).
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I recently found out I was wrong about zagubov so it is not impossible to be wrong/unsure on these matters and of course it took a long time before Lemon came out ;) (as a guy)

Isn't this the sixth thread? Is there some residual doubt on the longstanding posters that I don't know about?

I dislike the shakespear comedies. I find them too pantomime like. I like the histories and a tragedies though:D

I have a friend who uses a deep fat fryer in the garden to avoid smells in her kitchen!

    So do I!
Said friend has also banned chip pans from their home.

TBF said friend has a nose like a bloodhound, & when I visit can tell what I've cooked recently, just by the smells on clothes. They can even tell what flavour crisps their kids have had that day!

I think thats really stoic of you. Fwiw there is an almost cultural dislike to the point of fear of dogs in some parts of carribean/west indies....so might play into your wife's fear?

Fwiw i think you would curl up and die of terror here!:D.

I don't have a deep fat fryer but having one in the garden sounds like the best plan.

DW grew up owning fierce outside dogs and wasn't afraid of her dogs only those of the neighbours (and probably with good reason!)

I grew up with dogs but was not affectionate with them and also with lots of dirt so it is not that I can't cope with it but just don't like it. DKs seem to like dogs, DSis has a large black labrador (she also went to same uni at same time as Lydia), they are a bit wary at first but soon get over that. With DSon the dogs are probably the ones who need to watch out...

I don't like touching or being licked by dogs either, I have to keep washing my hands every 5 minutes if I stay with someone who has a dog. I expect if I had my own dog I wouldn't be bothered by my own dog licking me, but I don't like other people's dogs coming near me.
