A little something for Pastures, but particularly Single Sue as I think her youngest will get a kick out of it. The Economist Schumpeter column on why businesses need aspies, dyslexics and people with ADHD:

The trouble tends to be modern methods of recruitment will weed you out of my companies' process at the early stages... and if you make it as far as the interview, then their bizarre questions will make you look an idiot.

Then, once in the job, everything's brilliant and everybody LOVES the way you're so fast, so clever, so efficient, so reliable, so honest..... and you don't need to do any "team working" because everybody just automatically does their best for you because you ask for things in a clear way, with a reason why and a reasonable deadline..... then somebody decides that you're SO brilliant, you can do other stuff.... and you either end up doing everything.... or, they put you onto tasks that require people skills, multi-tasking, or being in a wrong environment. Oh dear.... then it all goes downhill.

I was employed once as an SEO Executive .... and then placed 4' from a thundering great industrial printing press that was running all day every day - couldn't hear anybody on the phone.... then they asked me to cover the counter in their retail shop part. Every time anybody was off everybody was expected to do all these other jobs.... bodies filling spaces, no thought to people's abilities/skills. If one person was off EVERYBODY did a different job - and I wasn't actually even employed by that company; I worked for a small satellite company who happened to have an office in the main building. In the end, due to their poor management, the whole company was closed and the building sold off. But it was the worst 6 months of my life between employment and redundancy.

As for organisation ... I'll let you all guess where the customer file for (invented town name) Maintown Zoo was to be found in the filing system ..... I'll tell you in a bit...

I didn’t enter myself as I was scared that being a board member would invalidate me

Under Zoo "cos it's its surname"?

I once saw Goldman Sachs under completely the wrong SIC code in a system because someone thought they were called Goldman Sacks and made carrier bags. Sometimes you can't legislate for stupidity.

Maybe the gf called him as he was getting out? Or distracted him. Or breathed.

Don't worry, you'd be well aware already if it was someone else's fault.

    Apparently what happened was this:

I was waiting to get in the taxi with oh and three of her friends. I refused to get in the taxi with them for ages on the grounds that I didn't believe they would pay for it.

OH then wanted to know how much money I had in my wallet so she knew whether we could afford the taxi, which was likely to be about £40, or not. I refused to give it to her on the grounds that I apparently believed that her friends would "steal it", but assured her I had plenty of money.

Then when we eventually arrived (having dropped said friends off, who had all paid), I finally handed my wallet over which turned out to have £5 in it. She then gave it back and I obviously dropped it on the floor.

I of course remember not one iota of all of this, including the fact that there was a taxi journey.

If anyone's to blame it's the queen for having a jubilee.

Phone the taxi company. It’s a legal duty of the driver to check the car after every passenger (even though I know I check at the end of shift) :)

t'was a black cab, so i expect it will be handed in to a police station or posted to me eventually (driver's licence is in there) but there's no point waiting around on the off chance that i might get it back!
