what were you expecting? a sunny june? come on CK, you've been living here since forever. you know better that to expect a summer.
you won't see a decent run of more than three sunny days together (known colloquially as a "heat wave") before october.0 -
My daughter is collecting a couple of ex battery hens from a rescue later this month. Would something like this help fill the gap? Ex batts are usually very sweet natured. It is lovely seeing them grow feathers and learning to behave naturally.
If you are interested then let me know.
I have 16 ex batts atm! And the odd rare breed and whats leftof my own hybrids.. I am not shortof chickens,
just no cochins
. But thank you, its a very kind suggestion.

No, summer was in March this year, didn't you notice it? 2 weeks of lovely warm weather. (It was in April last year, usually it falls in April or May). There is always a late summer as well, usually falling in mid-October, although last year it was in November, I think. It just rains during the intervening period.0 -
Who knew this?!
The tradition of having a “Best Man” in attendance apparently originates back to the dark ages, when a man would physically kidnap his bride to be. The Best Man’s role was to assist the Groom in abducting his chosen woman, and to assist in fighting off her family if they attempted to rescue her. He would continue his duties after the ceremony by standing guard as sentry outside the newlywed’s home.0 -

I was best man once and a guest left his belongings in a taxi which then had to make a special trip to return the stuff. Guest can't be found. Best man has to pay off the driver, doesn't he?
Had a friend who got married in the US. None of us could get over for the wedding to be best man, but as a female friend was in the States temporarily, she agreed to be his "best woman" which absolutely wowed everybody. Nobody'd ever heard of such a thing. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Nah, I'm just putting the finishing touches to my speech, that's all. It's hilarious of course, but it is also now educational.0 -
Bring plenty of cash. You've got to deal with any financial crises/emergencies.

good tip, I'll remember to leave my wallet at home!
well actually i won't have any choice in that matter as i left it in a taxi on monday night, and none of my cards will be reissued until after the wedding. i wonder if the £40 i've got in cash will cover all eventualities, including my train ticket....?0
