Busy afternoon. Ran to the gym, did an hour on the bike watching a programme about lions, limped back, hoovered, mopped, cleaned then oven (we don't do this a lot so it was a major enterprise), flipped the mattress, made the bed, ironed 5 shirts, changed all the broken light bulbs in the house (one has gone already) cooked dinner...phew. Stick a fork in me, I am done.

I don't think I am cut out to be a mum.

You'd not need to do that every day though would you - loads of spare time to watch JK still!

I was just thinking of two other ways LIR's lights could be achieved more easily/cheaply .... even by LIR herself. And I had two new genius ideas :)

    Maybe.....

Effort/£ would need to be costed, but I was thinking:

1] With a template in your hand, make a mould and use bronze clay. This gives you proper/actual/real bronze.
2] Using any material it's possible to make it in (fimo clay is cheap), then a cold enamel process to apply the bronze. This gives you the look of bronze.

Genius me .... hardest bit of that is the first part: "having and holding one template item in your hand to copy"

    The bit I said :)
    Plz. Thx.

    Done
You're spot on with the first bit .... and this last bit.

    Thanks. :)
One thing that to me is MOST bizarre.... LL doesn't seem able to function (is petrified) of living/being alone, not having people around ..... various things have been said to this effect. As a loner, I find this very strange.

This is a big part of the mismatch between you. She hates being alone. She has got a lodger as much for the company as for the money. She craves not just your presence but interaction with you. Therefore she asks questions about your life, makes "helpful suggestions" and, I'm guessing, tells you more about her own life than you want to know.

Meanwhile, you have taken the room because you need somewhere to live and can't afford to live alone. You want to live parallel lives, getting in each other's way as little as possible. You value your privacy, and do not want to tell her all about your life.

So when she is "expressing a friendly interest in your life", you experience it as "the Spanish inquisition". When you "try not to get in her way" she probably experiences it as you "being distant and unfriendly". This is never going to work. The more you try to get some space, the more she will feel lonely and pursue your company; the more she tries to connect with you, the more you will feel smothered and pull away.

Her tendency to tell everybody what to do is intrinsically a bad thing. But her desire to be connected rather than alone really isn't wrong in itself. It's just a difference of style and preference. But it does mean that the two of you are a seriously bad match for each other. If you must lodge in somebody else's house, you need a LL who needs the money but wants the lodger to leave them alone as much as possible. Your current LL, on the other hand, needs a lodger who craves company and connection as much as she does.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

  • Why do people flip matresses?

  • Why do people flip matresses?

Cos after six months or so there is a person shaped depression when I've been lying every night, which makes the mattress slope downhill towards me, which means I don't get any ruddy personal space because OH rolls downhill.

If you'd like to put me on the map I'm in Sheffield for the time being.

But, I don't really feel like a(n) NP, I just kind of pop in now and again! I'm a bit bitter about life as I don't have proper jobs or relationships to talk about. Although, I suppose a lot of people would feel envious of me for that :p

I had a really nice afternoon with a lovely young lady, whom I thought things were going ok with, but she sounds to be still hung up on the last bloke she was with, so I'm not sure. She's just moved house, so I said I'd take her to Ikea, as I have a car (he doesn't) which was all very nice, but I didn't end up buying anything. So I basically just taxi'd someone to Ikea and back (an hour there and back) for pretty much nothing! As I say I'm in Sheffield and the nearest Ikea is Leeds. may be worth it in the end but I'm not sure...

PN: sorry to hear of your travails, even if I have had piece them together from what other people have said.

TBH I'd tell her to mind her own blimmin' business (I'd prolly say something stronger than blimmin'). I realize that may not be a response you'd be comfortable giving however. The trouble with lodging is you have no rights at all, pretty much.
