A lot of the reading groups I'm familiar with read stuff I think you'd like and that would fit your tastes so I was curious as to whether it was something you'd considered.
I have never been a member of a reading group.. I would, i think though, join one. I would want to know what they had read in the last year. Don't want to get stuck reading maeve binchy or jodi picualt or stuff:eek:

I don't know any that read Maeve Binchy and only one that has read Jodi Picoult, though occasionally someone will suggest something along those lines just to see what they are like. Typical current fare: Hare with the Amber Eyes, Wolf Hall, The Sense of an Ending, The Thread, Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Society, The Children's Book, Before I Go To Sleep, When God Was a Rabbit, The Poisonwood Bible, The Tenderness of Wolves... A lot also read classics and modern classics such as Dickens and Steinbeck, and quite a few also read older children's books such as Holes, The Book Thief and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. I don't know if any of those pique your interest but they would be more typical. Though there are plenty of atypical groups too, such as ones that only read NF.
ETA: can't believe I forgot Jamrach's Menagerie. I have read a goid few of those, so yep...i would fit in the groups. Sort of standard modern fiction.
What i would really like is a gorup that read the shortlisted/longlisted books for major fiction awards. I think that would get me reading stuff i don't pick up be default iyswim.0 -

Sorry non-fiction. Standard modern fiction is a good way of putting it and is the fare of reading groups.
There are groups that go through things like the Orange and Booker nominees, but you can't easily do that at a library as the demand is for the same books at the same time, so we don't tend to meet as many of those. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I've read a few Maeves in the past. Usual thing: sad/broken person turns up in windswept Cornwall... finds true love by the last page.0
