Not bought dress but have plans. I have dresses in my cupboard that haven't been worn to anything yet.

And it looks like £100/person, just need to ring them tomorrow. would turn a 14-day holiday to a 12-day one. friend has said she doesn't mind either way as it's a marriage not just a wedding etc etc but feeling v guilt tripped.

this is to see my parents that we haven't seen in 2 years so it's really difficult. stupid stupid stupid.

My parents are only 400 miles away but I take all opportunities to visit/ communicate with them. Both are in good health AFAIK.

I'm a patronising older git and a coffin-dodger to boot, but you are right to visit your parents and to prioritise that. Maybe come home early for this wedding if possible but don't knock yourself out.

Blood's thicker than water. That doesn't sound perfect but it's on the right side of the right-wrong boundary by my reckoning.

Good news on the DS front. He's now geting geared up to travel to school by bus (not regularly but it's a start). He's already coming home by bus twice a week and we're looking to expand this to four times.

A big advance in the personal autonomy side of things and also thinking selfishly (and guiltily) from the point of view of less parental time spent in chauffeuring on some mornings and most afternoons. :)

That is excellent Zagubov...and I know what you mean by the selfish "Oh goody" feeling. I felt the same the first time youngest went in the school door on his own last year, huge achievement for him but no-one else could quite understand why I was so over the moon and happy, it knocked a good couple of minutes off my morning school run time which meant I missed most of the main rush hour traffic!

Things appear to have settled down a little here but then, he has not had to cross site since the last panic call on Monday, so youngest is far happier. I have been busy however dealing with the debacle, having meetings with head teachers, form tutors, subject tutors, head of the ILC at one campus and the new head of the SEN department plus his outreach support bod, so that, hopefully, things will go smoothly for tomorrow when he cross sites twice in one day (very very poor planning that one!)

Eldest went through a little 'eek' moment though as they decided to disband his form group and disperse them amongst other forms. His main gripe was he had been put into a group which had a science teacher as the form tutor and he had decided, in advance, that she was going to be strict and no fun. I asked him to hold back on that view because knowing some of the NP's are science based and are not at all stuffy (and of course, I have always been inclined that way), that he might just be surprised.

He had his first new form time yesterday....his teacher is not at all stuffy and in fact James said she was just as weird and eccentric as he was, so he was happy! :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

OK Herts NPs, time to be angry:

Why would anyone say that?????????? aaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh

Perhaps I'm missing the point but isn't this true? Black people are routinely treated by many as inferior, stupid and criminal. They shouldn't be but they are.

Similarly, women are often considered to be unsuitable for senior management. I was planning on telling my daughter that she'll have to do more to prove herself than a man often. Should I not do that?

The mother sounds a bit racist herself! What does this comment (of her's) mean:"Sonny was born in Britain and his skin colour should make no difference."

What significance is being born in Britain? Why mention it?

"Sonny’s mother spoke of her “shock” at the comment made in July to discuss Sonny’s schooling and attendance."

Was she shocked at him not attending school and a truancy officer needing to home visit?

Just tell your daughter to find a rich husband, no need to prove herself.;)

It's ok, she'll have a rich Dad to provide for her material needs by then. :)

    Re kids an proving themselves..

Increasingly everyone is having to prove themselves, which is how it should be. People of all sorts have preconceptions, bigotries and prejudices. No, its not right, but it does happen.

You see it here in the np thread often enough, and we are np.

That kid is goiong to have to prove himself not just because of his colour, but because of various other things. The white boy from a posh part of the country woth a pricate education is goiong to have to prove his worth is personal, not birthright. The women are going to have to prove we can either use or not use our differences, but not abuse them. And so on, and so on. If you cannot identify what you are Counteracting in peoples preconseptions and prejudices, then you have a harder run. If someone is kind enough to try and point you in a direction you can move forward with and they get a kick in the teeth....well, thats a hurdle they would have flopped on top of if in front of me I am afraid.
Any one who is expecting a clear run through life based on the stars being in perfect allignment for them is either an extremely lucky person, or very misguided. And those screaming prejudice over this sort of thing belittle the plight of those who actually suffer malicious prejudice, both here and elsewhere.

Precisely! Perhaps the kid has low self esteem and it wasn't appropriate to tell him how it is, but there was nothing racially abusive about the remark. I was not impressed with the mother, that's for sure,
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Tall people are paid more than short people.
Good looking people are paid more than less good looking people.
Men are paid more than women.
Younger workers (up to about 40ish) are paid more than older workers.

    I know what I am ... :(
