For me, it's drink alone, or not at all. Mostly it's not at all.... but sometimes you just fancy a cold half on a scorching day at the coast.
i have a pathological fear / hatred of going into pubs on my own. i won't even sit in a pub waiting for someone i am meeting to turn up, instead i will stand outside or walk up and down the street. usually i turn up late on purpose to avoid having to do this. i cannot explain this in any sort of rational / logical terms.0 -

Looks like another clear divide = are NP will go in to pub on own/or will not go into pub on own types.0 -
The last time I went to a pub on my own was shortly after I moved back here. Was a hot day and I just fancied a quick half. I was a bit worried I'd be spotted though. Not sure why as I'm definitely old enough to be served
The time before that I had got back from work late (left at 8.30 ish then tube trek back) only to find that I'd left my keys in the flat that morning. Other person was out, and didn't answer their phone so I left messages and went to the pub to wait it out. Nursed my pint for as long as I could, but still no word. Pub was closing (nearly midnight) so walked back to flat. Was stood outside until after 2am until other person got backWas very tired and cold. Didn't really know any of our neighbours well enough to get let in (and couldn't get into our flat anyway), other than our next door neighbour who was really wierd. About 15 minutes before I was let in, there were people from the water board (well they had branded fluorescent jackets and van) were walking around looking down the drains. It was a bit surreal and I did actually pinch myself to make sure I wasn't starting to hallucinate!
Edit - I should add this was the one and only time I forgot my keys. And I had to rescue the other person at least 5 times when they forgot theirs (including when I was going away for the weekend)0 -

Very quickly found the perfect answer which was to find an empty table, sit down, get out a book and start reading it.
Either you'd get your order taken and served at your table or the bar staff would come to you to ask to order at the bar. Saved dithering about feeling like an eejit. Also as the book would be in English they'd address you in English, saving on language problems. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

But... I can't avoid the pub. 2-3x a year I have to go in one, alone, or to meet somebody in there. If there were other options, I'd go with that. But some things just have to be done; irrespective of fears, phobias, terrors ..... hate it, hate it, hate it.... but, like supermarket shopping.... sometimes needs must.0 -
Got my leg aids looked at .... new cream and some tablets now. I think it's so spectacular I was a novelty act.... got diagnosed, but then she called in a higher authority to confirm it couldn't be anything else (I read: worse/fatal).....
All OK... I'll live... but it could take weeks to sort out.0 -
i don't mind the supermarket*, particularly because it's always very cold in there.
* = waitrose or sainsbury's at a push. the following are classified as food jumblesales: aldi, asda, tescos, lidl, any other supermarket which is not waitrose or sainsbury's (although i miss kwiksave).
french supermarkets, on the other hand...if only we could have a few of them over here. worst supermarkets ever = australian ones, mainly because the sausages are made out of beef and they are full of australians.0 -
My go had a cancellation to day. I expected a disagreeable 'well, you really should .....' and got a 'yes, you know, i see where you are coming from. I think thats reasonable'. So plan now is to see the NeXT consultant then go back for another eye exam when called by them, if the swelling seems as bad or worse i will then have the lumbar puncture. That is a decision i feel more comfortable with.0
