There's a Burning Man festival in Nevada I think. The Wickerman's a smaller music festival in Scotland
DD's off to Bestival in a few days.

Myself, always wanted to go to Glastonbury but queuing for rubbish toilets is a horrible idea considering I would obviously be living on curry and lager.

Glastonbury was brilliant on our one time of going. We have however registered for next year so when the tickets are on sale we can apply.:)

The port-a-loo's were disgusting in the campervan field - POSH ALERT - we hung on as much as possible though as we were given backstage passes so had access to flushing loos in big trailers down in the festival itself. The long drop loos sounded terrible but by a couple of days in they were definitely better than the port-a-loos.

    Sorry TMI

The little festival 3 miles down the road from us was great fun a few weeks back - so much so that next year friends are saying they will camp there.

It was going to jumble sales when I was very small which caused the panic attacks I now suffer in busy places......
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

LIR, I don't know if it helps you at all, but I made an important discovery about private hospital charges - mind you, I am generalising from a sample of one. The discovery is that they have two charging scales. One is for patients with medical insurance, and a second MUCH cheaper one for self-funding patients. Then, I asked nicely whether they could manage a discount from the self-funded rate. They could. Very MSE.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I smoked a pipe for about 10 years from age 20 to age 30. I found it incredibly easy to give up. (I just realised how unhealthy it was and stopped. I've never smoked one since.)

So, my top tip for anybody wanting to give up cigarettes is to smoke a pipe instead, and then give that up.

My dad switched to a pipe first (with occasional cigars) and gave up later, too.

I quit, I fail, I quit I fail ..on and on.....and then I hate myself.

I think I might have done it this time though but the urge is always there and I wish it would go away. Such a PITA especially as my OH hasn't smoked for 30 years.

I understand that nicotine is much more addictive for some people than for others. It depends on how much you have of some hormone or protein or something, or else on how much the nicotine you personally need in order to raise/lower your level of some neurotransmitter to a particular level, or something of that kind. Sorry I forget the details. But it's genetic, I'm fairly sure. So please try not to hate yourself.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I've just seen a business in action that anybody can do/start ..... binmen just came round - and this couple in a van were following them and putting the wheelie bins back in the wheelie bin store. The bins had been put out yesterday. So their business is going to flats and putting out the bins and putting them away again.... wonder how much they charge for that.

Edit: Looks like councils offer this to the elderly/infirm/disabled... never knew that either. I made my old do it themselves.... by starting the day before it was achievable if [a] they remembered they had the strength on the right day [c] they had the wherewithall on the day to get it right.

    :)

    I'm tough .....

I have a confession to make. I have never even taken a single drag on a ciggie (or anything else). Strangely I would like to defend other peoples right to smoke - it is not really that annoying for non smokers (no worse than strong perfume and less unpleasant than bo) and I am sure the health risks, while there, are not an order of magnitude worse than any other vices... so PN if smoking gives you pleasure or calm or whatever then carrry on, you are an adult and don't need the nanny state to make risk/pleasure decisions for you.

There's not many of us about but I too have never even tried a cigarette/anything else.
As for defending peoples right to smoke though.... well that depends. I'm all in favour of the pub ban.
We spend a lot of time in pubs :o and simply love the fact that they're smoke free. Of course I do realise that the ban is destroying some of the business but the good pubs will survive and I can only be in one at a time. :) You are right that other things can be worse, so I say let's get some movement on banning BO rather than letting up on cigs. :D

The pub ban wasn't really about the customers, it was because the staff were being forced to smoke in a smoky atmosphere.

As I see it - pubs are private businesses. If non-smokers yielded them a better return on their investment they'd have chosen to be non-smoking, or had two separate bars. As for the staff thing, they could have had a small smoking bar, with a glass wall, like you get in a garage late at night .... and beers could have been passed through a slot.

Same with letting kids into pubs - if there was money in it, all pubs always had the option of providing a family room. I remember being on holiday in the early 1970s and going into a family room for a drink one night... horrible place, full of kids :)

i much prefer non-smoking pubs, it's horrible now when you go abroad and people still smoke indoors in pubs and restaurants (restaurants especially, nothing worse than having someone smoke all over you when you're eating). i reckon the smoking room at abu dhabi airport is the worst place on earth, for instance.

i still smoke when drinking but don't mind popping outside once per drink to have one (or twice per drink after about 4-5 pints, three times per drink after 6-7 and 100 times per drink after about 8).

anyone who refuses to go to the pub because they don't want to walk 10 yards to have a cigarette is a bit of an idiot really.

Dr systems are lunacy. Saw Dr just over 2 weeks ago and foot/leg's not any better.... no change. He said to come back if nothing in 2 weeks.... so, I was passing and went in. She told me there's nothing for my Dr this week. For my leg/foot, I don't care if it's a nurse, Dr, or which one.... she said I'd have to phone in tomorrow to book an appointment for next week. Which isn't any use at all ..... anyway ... bit or argy bargy and she's got me in to see another Dr this afternoon.

It's a mad system; I am standing right in front of her, she could have easily booked me in with my Dr next week, and/or offered me an appointment with "anybody who can see you" soonest.

It's not fit for purpose... it's only fit for people who have nothing to do all day, all week, every week, who have a phone and have time to plan to fanny about.

That works if you're with people... but if you are on your own, the minute you leave your table/the bar you've lost your seat. In fact, as a single person it's best to sit at the bar (looking like a bar tart) else you'll lose your seat anyway when you want a 2nd drink.
