anyone watching paralympics? oscar pistorius making comments that the runner who beat him should have his blades looked at by the IPCC..... bit of a sore loser :(
    GDB2222 wrote: »
Probably he's right. If longer blades make them go faster, this could quickly degenerate into a 'man on stilts' race. That might be fun, but it's a different sport. In the meantime, if it's within the rules, he needs to put up with it.

I'm about 6 pages behind, so please excuse me if someone has said this already. Pistorius has to meet more stringent standards because he races against able-bodied athletes. Therefore his prosthetic has to be IAAF approved. However to race in the paralympics requires a lower standard. Pistorius has been arguing for some time that the standards should be the same for both and equally enforced in order to ensure a level playing field. I can absolutely see where he's coming from and think he's right, but he picked the wrong time to say it.

We were at the stadium last night and had a great view of this race. The Brazilian who won wasn't even in it until the very end at which it was as though he hit a turbo boost button. The difference was astonishing. The whole crowd was gobsmacked.

I gave up some while ago but when I was still smoking, now ex husband tried all sorts to force me to give up, the silliest one was growing a beard, saying he would only shave it off when I stopped smoking...he had to shave it off when his boss complained. He looked like a hobo :rotfl:

He just couldn't understand that the more pressure he put on me, the less I wanted to give up, it was like I was rebelling against him. This was despite me saying to him on the night we met "I am a smoker, if you don't like it, then leave now. If you don't mind, then stay but never ever try to make me give up...take me for who I am"

I'm exactly like this with my husband. We don't actually have many run ins, but if he is particularly insistent about something I tend to dig my heels in and do the complete opposite. You'd think he'd learn, but no...

BIL has a smashing caravan they visit all the time as do my p and m. It's static in a lovely caravan park in a posh town. Nice facilities and they really enjoy the use of it.

Mind you on onother thread it was mentioned that caravan furniture is used in show homes to hide how small rooms are becoming. A sad reflectyion on modern housing.

I have agreed to find out if nhs /private place where mother had knees done does lps, because that throws another choice into the mix.

I had an lp as a 5 year old when they thought I had meningitis lir. To this day they still don't know (but it would have been viral rather than bacterial). However what hurt the most is that some evil witch of a nurse gave me bunches so tight that I had a Croydon facelift. Therefore the only pain I can remember from that time was from my hair.

I wish you all the best in deciding the right course of action.

I have just had the most wonderful morning at the Equestrian Paras. I am now a dressage fan, it was so exciting and different to anything I have ever seen before.

Glad you had a good time fc. Sounds great fun!

I didn't see any of the posts before they were deleted Pastures, but clearly you're a bit unsettled at the moment and I hope things work out for you.

There's one major (holiday) site that dominates this area; it probably has 90% of all caravans on it. Site fees/year are £5-10k!!!

LIR I don't know what is best for you but I am sure that you and dh do. However I admire your self control today, unfairness and systemic stupidity are two things that push my buttons hardest especially when there is nothing I can control to change things. If I get icily polite and start assuring the person I am talking to that I understand that they are just am employee and it is not thir fault then it is probably not the best time to ask me an inane question (sorry kids).

I have a confession to make. I have never even taken a single drag on a ciggie (or anything else). Strangely I would like to defend other peoples right to smoke - it is not really that annoying for non smokers (no worse than strong perfume and less unpleasant than bo) and I am sure the health risks, while there, are not an order of magnitude worse than any other vices... so PN if smoking gives you pleasure or calm or whatever then carrry on, you are an adult and don't need the nanny state to make risk/pleasure decisions for you.

FC great that you are moving forward with your extension and it will definitely be worth it when done...you just may have to keep telling yourself that at times when the work is going on.
    I think....

Vinyl..... so tricky to look after and lug about .... such an 4rse to play .... glad I never had a collection.

I have a lot of vinyl. The thing that p*sses me off most is that you can't fast forward it and record it really quickly like you can a CD. Well, not without listening to Pinky and Perky (not sure that many people are old enough to know what I'm talking about).

We have a Jumble sale in our village hall twice a year. It is run by stalwarts. The punters start queuing from about 9.o.clock. It never opens until 1pm. Some bring white vans and try to take your jumble from you as you deliver it into the hall. There is obviously a circuit as the shoppers all know each other - and quite a few look alike.

I'd love to go to a jumple sale. I didn't even kno that they were still held. I used to go to loads in the 80s, snapping up vintage stuff from the 40s, 50s and 60s that nobody else wanted.
    a) george osborne getting booed at the paralympics ha ha ha

    b) the paralympic high jump for people with only one leg. bloody amazing.

It really was amazing, I wish they showed more of it. Last night they had blind discus. As they spun round, a few athletes hit the nets and had the discus come back and hit them. Ouch.

My bro posted up pics of the Burning man festival up in Scotland (I think) which looked insane. He is on tour in the USA for the past 2 weeks but had to divert to Barcelona for the W/E.

I still haven't been to one. Maybe that's next years 'new thing to do'. I might do the Isle of Wight one, Bestival. I think you can swim there too......sort of Iron man meets Metalhead moment.

There's a Burning Man festival in Nevada I think. The Wickerman's a smaller music festival in Scotland
DD's off to Bestival in a few days.

Myself, always wanted to go to Glastonbury but queuing for rubbish toilets is a horrible idea considering I would obviously be living on curry and lager.

The jumble is a bit intimidating for me.

Our village fete is the place for snapping up stuff - china and glass stall, white elephant, clothes, books alongside the sideshows, cakes, plants jams etc. Until recently people knowingly gave away good unwanted stuff - I even gave some Clarice Cliff plates. I think the growth of ebay etc has reduced the flow of goods in abit

We run the book stall - hard work all that lifting - and usually get dealers who come in and rifle through before it opens looking for first editions. We have had some super books though - and usually ask the dealer types for a reasonable sum. They usually try to hide something intersting in heap of novels and tat.

We rarely have time to look around. On one memorable occassion our DD bought herself the most beautiful silk dress made by a local designer - it was left over because it was only about a size 6-8 which at that time she was.

This year the fete made more than £12000 - not bad for a small village with a next door village that has a fete of it's own.

The discus story is a joy on many levels.
