Thank you for the replies LIR and viva,

Yes, my username suits me well...;) It is something I have wanted to do for a long time, but lately I had a little wobble as I was letting external influences get to me and I shouldn't have. I had been looking at old school friends on facebook, and their life seems to ALL be about acquiring lots of pointless things, gadgets, nice clothes and going on endless nights outs, followed by status updates of " hanging ". It seems people my age don't want to do anything for anyone else without expecting something back...I currently volunteer on postnatal ward, 5 hours every friday. I live by the sea, and the hospital is in the next town so I travel 40 minutes to get there, costs quite a bit in train fare. But it makes it so worthwhile, when the women see me arrive and say " Thank God you are here " I am a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter, and I get to see babies that are literally hours old. I support mothers with all things breastfeeding, I bring my pack of delights, knitted boob the lot! :rotfl: This is all non-paid and I guess you could argue that with my train fare costs, I am actually paying to work there....but it really is heart-warming. With that said, I can't imagine half of the people on my fb doing that. They seem so wrapped up in their next holiday, next pair of designer shoes, next this, next that....it all seems so pointless.

I've heard that they may get a couple of the female Olympians on Strictly. Jonny Ball, Michael Vaughan and Kimberley from Girls Aloud are also rumoured. I quite like the female judge from So You Think You Can Dance US, I wish they'd bring her over.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Darcey is probably the best known ballerina since.....Fontaine? Wayne sleep of course is well known, but his gender and campness is already reprisented innit?

Better a dancer, an actual dancer, than someone who has been dancing seriously (like. knowing names for movements) for a series.....i presume thats who they are replacing? Her grammar annoyed me too, so i will be releaved. At least Bussel has shown herself as having a sense of humour. But agree, that was some time ago...french and saunders i think?

I think if people are drawn to the vacuous, its their choice. I know a lot of my interests are vacuous too, but not all of them, or some others are to some but not others...depending on outlook and expectation.

When i first noticed you on mse you were considering applications and moving.....is that all decided now?

I think this is key, don't get me wrong I love shoes like the next woman, but I guess I just feel different as acquiring things for myself all the time is not the only thing I live for.

That sounds really good. It would go down a treat in my local hospital. I wanted to sound off about it a while back but my SiL was still in there. My cousin had also had a similar problem. When we went to see her the ward was filfthy, the nurses were standing around, and when one distressed Mum - who'd clearly only recently given birth - asked how to clean her baby who needed their first nappy change - the nurse was leaving and just barked to get a bowl out of the cupboard. No support, no signposting, no compassion, nothing. Meanwhile the nurses stood around high-5ing each other and laughing. Not impressed. We need caring compassionate people on our wards. Incidentally everyone said the midwifery staff were fantastic - it was everyone else that needed a kick up the proverbial.

I know i have said it before but i will say it again, the privately run enterprise doing a nhs small ops hospital (knees and hips, some gastro, so not that small) is amazing. Its mainly staffed by non brotish europeans and they put much else (private and nhs) to shame. My mother received treatment that i have never seen equalled there. She was quite rude to them in her nervous ness and i told her off and she apologised to them, and they were all so sweet and hugged her, and babied her. When she bled on the floor an english (junior) nurse was asked to clean it up and she said, 'yeah, i'll call the cleaners, and the senior non brit nurse and her team took a deep breath, grabbed blue wipe , picked up the drop of blood and then de gloved, scrubbed again and regloved. The cleaner was still called, but no one had time to tread in it, or make a big fuss or anything. The place just reeks the smell of very, very clean, like convents sometimes do.

Fancy hospital i went to was not as friendly (or efficient) but better than where i am off to on Monday (still keeping an eye out for daddybear) where despite the wonderful, wnderful young doctor i saw and who has been in touch since, the irganisation is appaling and neither of the senior consultants i have seen both privately and there have impressed me or put me at ease one bit. The place does not have a nice clean feel, and i wich i could have the lp somewhere else, but ......its got to be done.
