Fire places are so special but I think just not appropriate for most properties - as I have said I think buildings should be of a piece, not old cottages with high gloss kitchens or new builds with exposed bricks and beams and fireplaces in one room.
.
I dislike most mordernisation, but by no means all. I love ancient buoildings with sheer glass extentions. I have no aversion to mixing periods and while i think houses frozen in aspic have a beauty, it is also sort of oddly false and harder to live with. Our aim here has really been mainly restoration, rather than mordernisation....kt had been poorly modernised in the sixties. I am not that keen generally, but pbviously jot exclusively ( fireplace!) on repro, and have in the main, for example. I am rarely that enamoured of repro bathroom suites. I did really like the antique loos, but when considered how much would have to be done to make them work a morden loo seems a good idea.
Even inherited houses in the same family have had new decor, and furnishings bought over the years, and the owners have television and computers, so seems fair to include these in a period house.
The repro i like is either skilled traditional work done as was always done, or tacky gigglesome. Stuff twixt and tween done seriously is a bit worthy.
Mainly i just want to have things we like around us and easy to use.:)0 -
Welcome to MiddyMum, don't worry about previous stuff, my memory is so short I forget what we have talked about.
We bought a couple of beds from IKEA and the size is slightly different to beds everywhere else, so I put flat sheets on rather than fitted. OH doesn't approve and thinks people like fitted sheets so the creases are pulled out and don't form when you move around in your sleep. Opinions?
Flat sheets, definitely flat. Ilea sheets are rough and scratchy ( i am getting rid of my old student sheets atm) and imo flat sheets stay put so much better than fitted. Pllus, if you are of the ironing bent, they are far, far easier to iron.0 -

A better use of the time would be cake baking0 -
Thanks PasturesNew,
Do any of you get days where you wonder if you are on the " right " path? I turned 26 last week, and will be (hopefully) starting a vocational course (midwifery) next year which I know would give me a very fruitful career. I have always been interested in alturistic type jobs. Although, I find myself second guessing myself all the time! I guess it is the realisation that, No, I wont be a millionaire by the time I am 30 and probably never. lol - A silly little dream I had, (probably most teenagers do) when I was at school.
It just seems that the media are now portraying " honest work " as something that only the boring do. It appears that going on X-factor, TOWIE, Big Brother etc seems a lot more desirable for people in my age bracket. I heard that 60% of teenage girls aspire to be a glamour model, I can't find the source right now but I will have a look later. Everyone my age wants to be living the high life, makes me feel like I am missing out on something, makes me feel like I should be choosing a higher paid career, waited till I was 40 before having a child etc etc. Feels like a whole lot of pressure to me..
So, I guess this is my first random post...lol. Just my general thoughts at this present time.
It's pizza night for me and the OH. I am just glad I have a toddler that goes to bed at a decent time. In 24 minutes, my house will be quiet.8k in 2015 Challenge ( #167)0 -

WE use fitted sheets as they are so much easier but flat sheets are definitely nicer to sleep on, I suspect as they have no elastaine which helps and also therefore can be washed hotter which helps too. Then again they probably need changing more often as they runkle more....after we win the lottery the maid can change the flat sheets every dayI think....0 -

See, i find the corners of fitted sheets jump off, where as flat ones stay put, made tightly, hospital corners etc . They last a week with no issue. So i am guessing i could take them a lot longer. We have a fitted sheet on atm, and i have had to tuck in the corner under my head every single morning.0 -

I'm really strongly with OH on this.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
