It is not cliquey nor is it competitive as non of us are aiming for a common goal. Sometimes the thread moves very quickly and I have to skip pages as I cannot keep up. Still post though. Other times I read every word and don't post. The back stories are there but important history has a tendency to emerge again if it is needed.
Yep, i agree . I think we can be cliquey though, but we are welcoming. Its not a closed clique, it can just seem like that. It occured to me i have been chatting to some NP for five years now, so its not surprising we can seem tight. But new people can become part of the crowd quickly.
No need to read all, or back stories. You can always ask if something piques your interest.
Re careers and life paths. Dh had a major swing of career, and i had, um, a few, before not working and now playing at working a bit. The thing is that at 18 or younger what seems desirable and important might seem different later on. I feel the vacuous nature of our celebrity based culture is disheartening. While some celebrities are interesting and interested peoe with genuine intelligent comment on life, politics and the world, most are not. That some of those who are not so qualified are both of the opinion what they say is valid and interesting, and more terrifying that their fans feel the same, is a sorry state of afffairs.
Its particularly interesting whent those in media make poltical affiliations yet behave in such a way to contradict, mock or cast aspirtions on those beliefs.
Being a midwife seems to me a more fulfilling carrer to look back on in later life with satisfaction, than having a single that went to 37 in the charts about nothing new, or with no actual musical talent.0 -

I am relatively new on this thread, only made 3 posts or so but I hope I haven't offended anyone. You know, I havent posted that often because it feels like you all know each other really really well and because of this I often don't know what to say in response to certain posts; I can tell there is a lot of history there, and with 370 pages I just don't have the time to catch up. I was given a nice welcome though, so I appreciate that.
Here's a link to a post I made earlier on when someone joined six months ago. It’s a muddled introduction but you’ve probably sussed we're not here to change the world/start a new political movement!!:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I reckon i could keep a horse on what a moderate smoker inhales a week.
I should have said relatively! I thought it was over £7 a pack now. Not that I pay too much attention to prices. Honest!0 -
Wow. That's cheap!
CK must be in a different time zone, they haven't been £5 since 2006. It's now £7.50 per pack of 20

That's what I love about working in libraries, you can make a difference in the life of real people, not just "clients". I earned a lot more in corporate land, but when I had my run in with C I did a lot of thinking about what my life amounted to, and while I'd had fun, didn't think I'd contributed very much. I'm considering moving on to something else, but doubt very much it will be back to the corporate world. Plus I've still got my hand in due to my other interests. However none of that compares to midwifery, I wish you the best MiddyMum, plus I'm guessing that explains your username! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I just saw the trailerdidn't realise it was that time of the year again. Not sure about Darcey Bussell as the new judge though
They need some young blood as the judges else they are missing a whole big chunk of demographic.
Any idea who's dancing yet?0
