We are not-very-nice-to-toasters-people, and we used to go through a toaster a year, quite often with them catching fire. In the end, I bought a Dualit one, and it has survived rather well. It's crude, the different slots toast at different rates, but it's very robust. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I'm guessing shucking is getting the kernels off the cob (should really have asked google first
)? We have frozen whole cobs with no problems at all, so I can't see why not.
we froze whole cobs last year (the problem of growing corn!) but they got a bit mushy. although it was quite novel having corn on the cob in january.
now, to go to allotment and garden or write a revised proposal before monday am?0 -

Yes, it would be for September to May. I think that I will whittle it down, as I don't want him dying of cirrhosis of the liver or spending his entire uni career travelling to Arsenal matches. OTOH, I agree entirely with Lydia that he needs to concentrate on his studies, rather than earning money. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

that's what we're looking at but as you cannot set the toaster (you have to turn the dial each time), that's a no-no.
Looking at commercial toasters now. We do use the toaster daily. Toast is ritual in this household.0 -

Oh, I just love really fresh cobs. Sadly, the ones we get from supermarkets are never really fresh. Maybe I should plough up the lawn and start growing corn? However, with my gardening ability, we'll end up with a wasteland. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

My parents got fed up with toasters breaking (not catching fire though!!) but went the other route and so we have a smartprice/ value (can't remember which) one. Its doing pretty well all things considered, though it is not very pretty.0 -
We have cheap toasters with narrow slots. Once we tried an expensive toaster with fat slots and the kids wrecked it by using it to make toasted sandwiches and heat other food. The smell of burning remnants whenever you wanted an ordinary piece of toast was disgusting.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. OH is shouting in rage at the TV "this is not a sport, they're not doing anything". Then a lot of swearing and now the TV is off. The sport? Dressage! Ha ha.0

why not include rent in that £600 a month allowance and he shall have to learn to budget?
TBH, many of the undergraduate students I mentor have part time jobs. It really grounds them and teaches them budgeting and time management. They really get a better life experience as well, mixing with lots of people from lots of different backgrounds and have a wider social circle. But to each their own, everyone grows up at different rates.0 -

Yes, you have to set the timer each time you turn it on. There's no brown-ness setting. Curiously, we have become quite expert at adjusting the time for factors like dryness of the bread and whether the toaster is already hot. One advantage is that you can pop the toast up, inspect it, then pop it down again without affecting the timer. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
