Loads and loads of Olympics tickets came on line at about 19.40, I got right in at the front as wait was only 2 mins but unfortunately didn't get what I wanted - and now 15 minutes+ for other tickets. I'm on train so will lose 3G in about 5 mins and get cut off anyway.
My event is at 7pm tomorrow but going to get there about 10/11am and mooch about - then watch Pendleton and Hoy on the big screens hopefully winning 2 golds before watching Chinese automatons winning the diving.0 -

Parent not living here has found that their bed does not fit in the new house. Its going spare.
Dh and i have been excited about buying our first ever brand new bed, but money is stretched......
I don't like the bed particularly (upholstered head board which i cannot stand) but its going to be better than our broken one and our very knackered mattress. I was so looking forward to a dream bed too.
. Oh well, its a bit of money for something else isn't it? 0 -

Doozergirl wrote: »I think if this is your forever house, it's worth buying something like a Bristan. Triton is fine but random import - no. Even if you move things about, you can reinstall a decent shower elsewhere. For something ike a thermosatic shower, high use with moving complicated bits inside, the simple fact that these imports seem to either work or not initially (IME) and the intention of not wanting to fit one again myself ever, wouldn't be worth it.
I have neither attempted or considered attempting to fit a shower. If I were you, would I try? If I could get the kids out, turn the water off safely and have a back up strong man within a day just in case? Possibly.
Measure the distance between your exisiting pipes sticking out of the wall and make sure the dimensions are the same on whatever you buy. If yours is a Triton, it might be worth buying another for the increased likelihood of it fitting!
Very helpful. Thanks Doozer. I think I'll have a chat with helpful builder down the road. I've told him I want to have a break from him doing stuff in my house while I earn a bit more money to start paying him again! It's just that the shower looks as though it should be easy - all the difficult stuff of putting pipes in the wall etc has been done. It looks as though it should just involve undoing two nuts with a spanner, and then doing them up again with the new unit - comparable to plumbing in a washing machine to a space that's already had one before. So I thought I could save a little money by doing it myself, as well as getting rid of the suddenly-boiling-when-kids-use-taps problem sooner rather than later.
Anyway, the helpful builder is by no means desperate for work - he's always got plenty on and people waiting - and he's become a friend, with a sort of a hint (I think) of kind-man-rescuing-single-parent-damsel-in-distress sort of thing, IYKWIM. So I'm sure he'll be happy to advise me on whether I should attempt it myself and if so what sort I should get. He's more than familiar with my shower pipework - he fixed it a while back when I had a problem with it.Doozergirl wrote: »I would. I'm scared to go shopping and ask questions until we have permission. It had been mentioned to me by a man that they weren't as efficient for the price as they could/should be so I will be careful about it.
I'm pretty certain we will get the permission as this house has been designed specifically to the Case Officers requests and it contravenes nothing. We could almost go ahead and build it under permitted development, it's actually that unobtrusive to the neighbours. But I won't tempt fate by shopping yet.
The tiles would be a good back up plan but they shouldn't be necessary. Solar panels are PD unless you're listed or in a conservation area, and as long as they're no more than 20cm off the roof surface. If the planners let Doozer have the roof, they have to let her have the panels, as she's alluded to.lostinrates wrote: »Parent not living here has found that their bed does not fit in the new house. That's disappointing, even if convenient in a way. Could you start getting excited about what you're going to spend the money on instead? That might help. And remember, the parent's second hand bed is only a temporary stop gap until you've done some of the other stuff and have some money to spare to replace it.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

There's all sorts of things I'm sure you could do with it. Would you like an upholstered headboard if it was redone in absolutely your favourite fabric? Could you repaint it in Lapis Lazuli!?
I'd settle for an upholstered headboard if it were in Designers Guild Moyka

Random wallpaper behind could jazz it up a bit as well?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
