They have one here .... and once I am no longer homeless I will go in and have a look around. I'll buy something, one little meal .... and take it home knowing I'll be able to heat it up in a clean microwave and eat it off a plate I ownI've still not, ever ever, been into a Waitrose......

Shhhh.... you're giving away all the single people's secrets!!!lemonjelly wrote: »Good old toad in the hole.
I remember me & a friend cooked a big toad in the whole, & were making the mash, peas & other veg, & instead of plating up, dumped the potatoes & veg & gravy into the toad in the hole & carried it to the table in the oven dish it was cooked in, & sat & gluttoned out.:o
Saved on the washing up too, so MSE!:D
Couples can't eat like that as often as singles can

My sister in law takes whole bites out of the cheese in the fridge! :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Way to put others off eating it.... if I shared with her I'd keep my cheese in the fridge in a locked case!!!Doozergirl wrote: »My sister in law takes whole bites out of the cheese in the fridge! :rotfl:
I can't use the fridge here, it's minging.... explained/showed why it stinks - flatmate learnt something new, something he didn't know existed... and while, to his credit, he did sort out the immediate problem, I also explained that the whole thing needs 100% emptying and cleaning top to bottom to completely eradicate the smell (danger) ... but he's not got round to doing that yet. So .... although I did use the fridge once, with my stuff in sealed boxes then double wrapped in carrier bags..... I won't be doing it again.
Sooooo OCD.
Next place is cleaner.... and I get a whole shelf that's designated mine.... might manage to get two, but I think the home-owner's keen to control 75% of fridge/freezer space and 80-90% of cupboard space.... joys of sharing....
Nobody REALLY wants a lodger... and it sucks to be one.0 -

Exactly the same at our place and I'm not a lodger!

Darned washing machine .... longest wash time I've ever known....
LL did some yesterday and I remember thinking "that's taken some time", so when I used it today I inspected all the buttons carefully, but there was no quick/eco wash .... there was a button that said 40 degrees/A rating, so I figured that must be some form of eco wash and chose that.
It's now 2 hours and 3 minutes since I pressed start.... and it's not even started spinning... oh, hang on though.... as I typed that it's just started draining!
I can't leave a washing machine on and go out - too risky. So I have to wait until it's finished.... hope the stuff dries quickly.... got an airer in my bedroom to dry it, but I've washed my quilt cover .... and I only got one out of storage...
Edit.... : I got all excited.... it span!!! Then refilled. B4st4rd!!
Edit 2: It's just started spinning again ..... if this is it that'll be 2.5 hours from start!!
Edit 3: Hurrah... it finished. 2 hours, 36 minutes. I only put 3 tops and a double quilt cover in ... Jesus.0 -
I'm being slowly sucked into buying the wrong house....... there's one I've mentioned in the past week as being "OK/sort of".... and now they've just changed agents and knocked £15k off.
Trouble is... I think it's still over-priced... but maybe I'm just a fool.
Pros:
- some water views from garden
- fully/newly refurbished
- it looks quirky/unusual
- it's in the right location .... just, by about 400 yards.
- I've definitely got enough cash for it, just
Cons:
- no garage, just allocated 2 parking spaces
- it's officially a flat, so leasehold
- its looks might make it a bugg4h to resell in years to come
- it's got a bizarre roof situation going on that might prove to be troublesome to live with
- no utility
- no en-suite
So .... kind of unsure if I'm just having a knee jerk reaction.... or not. I am technically in no hurry to buy a house, but I am in a hurry to have my own place and feel settled and potter about my own little life.
I want to hold out for something better...... tough though.0 -
Tricky, Pastures. Is there any chance of somewhere for you to rent on your own while you wait for the right house to buy?
I need advice about showers, please. ATM there is one of these over my bath. If I lived alone I'd be happy with it. Flow rate is fine, temperature is fine, everything's fine... until DD or DS uses a tap or flushes a loo or something, and then I get scalded. It's happening too often, and I've decided it's stupid to have a house with two bathrooms and a downstairs loo and then not have a thermostatic shower. So I want to replace it.
I am wondering if I can replace it myself. I can turn off and drain down the water system, and I can do basic things with spanners, but I'm not up to drilling holes in walls or welding pipework or that kind of thing. Do you think I could find a thermostatic shower that would fit onto the pipes I already have plumbed in to supply this one? Would it be a good idea to get one of the same brand - ie would that make it more likely that the pipe spacing would be correct? If so, does anybody know anything about Triton thermostatic showers and whether they're any good?
PS Doozer - did you get my PM with the grid reference of my friend's house, and did you have any ideas as to what she should do?
ETA Can anyone explain the difference in price between the one I've just linked to and this one? I'm mystified, and have no idea which of the two I've got. It looks like that, anyway.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I'm back.
Felt like a nit of a waste of time tbh, just looked in my eyes again and confirmed what we already knew. But it also seems to confirm a diagnosis. Seeing the nerologist next week, at which time i expect to be put on a particular drug and then to arrange a lumbar pancture. Then i have to look at a referal for an endocrinologist again.0
