Either way it is poor business IMO.
When we were passively aggressively chucked out I was discussing the swimming with a regular, and a couple of the others were already chatting with another. They were pretty appalled that he wouldnt serve us and one of them called him a grumpy twot, so even if his intention was to keep the locals happy it didn't seem to work that well.
I can understand if we were all a bit leery, making loads of noise and acting like t0ssers, but we weren't. In the end it worked out well as we got a silly story to talk about, and ended up in a better pub with a really good atmosphere.0 -

It happens a lot in tourist areas, where footfall is seasonal, unpredictable and fickle.
You have to look after your locals.0 -
one medal match lost, another one at 1pm.

I went to Mexico vs Senegal yesterday at Wembley with DH and my Dad. It was good fun: 6 goals and plenty of end-to-end stuff. It was closer than the scoreline suggests, but unfortunately Senegal had Mr Bean in goal and he made a couple of absolute howlers, including back-passing the ball to an invisible Senegalese player, giving two Mexicans an open goal.
We had great seats and a fantastic view, sandwiched between two groups of Mexican supporters who sang and waved rattles very loudly nearby, aiding the atmosphere. It was very different to tournament football, the few Senegalese fans and the Mexican fans were so pleased to meet each other, they wanted to have their pictures taken together. Down Wembley way there was a Mexican camera crew and a Mariachi band. The Mexican fans were absolutely bonkers, with stuck on moustaches, sombreros and a couple were dressed as Mexican wrestlers. One of them even snuck a vuvuzuela in. A good time was had by all.
The only downside was that there were a lot of kids there who just wanted a portion of chips, but they couldn't buy them as McDonalds had a monopoly on chip selling at the Olympics. This is in spite of the fact that there wasn't a McDonalds outlet in Wembley Stadium. I don't know why, but this reminds me of American Werewolf in London. There weren't pentangles painted on the wall were there? Did the nice locals tell you to "stick to the roads" when you left? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I get that but there are better ways to deal with it really. He could have just said "sorry chaps I don't want a big group in here because it will annoy my regulars". I don't think it was that really, I think he actually couldn't be bothered to pour that many drinks and then collect all the glasses afterwards.
Also, nowadays everything gets on the Internet, and people use the Internet to plan what they are doing. So if you were planning a walk in the peak district and went on trip advisor and saw a couple of reviews calling the LL an idiot, you'd probably pick the other pub opposite for your pit stop.0 -

They go into the trade so they can sit and have free beer .... not to serve people.0 -

Ha ha. Someone I know went to went to he Ricoh stadium for an Olympics match. He said that they had to rename the stadium for the Olympics, and that someone had gone around with black masking tape putting it over the brand name on anything electrical - so the LG TVs in the bars had black tape over the LG, and even the hand driers in the toilets had been de-branded! God knows what they did about the massive tescos which is part of the stadium!!!
My understanding is that the IOC arrange all the corporate sponsorship and then just keep all the money for themselves. Ludicrous - if you're getting the sponsorship revenue you should bloody well pay for the games (or at least your own hotel bill and travel expenses).0 -

I'm suprised no ones tried to get around that, by the fact McD's don't sell chips. They sell fries, which are much thinner & crispier than chips. Two totally different products IMHO0
