I'm very sorry to read of your terrible dilemma.

I made a DNR decision when my Dad had a sudden and severe heart attack at 95. The doctor explained that even if he pulled through, he'd be confined to a wheelchair. Knowing his mental state before the event, and his great need for a measure of independence, I didn't find the decision difficult.

Hopefully medical staff will be able to advise like this, and you know your GM, but it's still so very difficult for you.

Are w talking lottery win or euromillions win?

I was going to say, i think the house i pick would be the same in either case.

But changed my mind rather quickly. Central Posh London, here we come!

Quite a strange night last night. On a stag do in the peak district, wandered into a pub about 8.30 to watch Ennis run, tried to order a round, landlord then threw us out because we changed the order (before he had even started pouring...) and so we then walked a mile to the next pub. Three of the guys wandered into a campsite on the way and ended up watching it in someone's caravan, the rest of us carried on walking and got to a pub which turned out to be owned by Ennis's great aunt or some such tenuous family connection. Whole place was completely decked out in Jess Ennis paraphernalia, and there was a local film crew there, and about a hundred people going a bit mental about it. Got some free champagne for the medal ceremony, and then had a strange impromptu group quiz about farming with the locals. In the taxi back to Sheffield some Dutch guy from the stag spent half an hour talking about quail farming, and going on about the quail's enemy "the rat".

    Bizarre.

    landlord then threw us out
It sounds more like he knew of the activities up the road and was pee'd off to even hear the name of the athlete mentioned... so figured he'd rather have a quiet night without you :)

The first pub had the athletics on too but wasn't that busy. There were 20 of us, but we weren't rowdy. Basically we walked into the pub and said "17 IPA please" then "oh sorry 16 IPA and a coke" and he said "if you can't make your mind up I'm not !!!!ing serving you, and i havent got enough glasses anyway" (there were about 100 glasses sitting in shelves behind him) and sat on a stool and refused to talk to us any more. Bit surprised someone running a pub didn't want to make a couple of hundred quid of beer sales.

As much as I hate any pub disappearing, people like that make me fume. Wonder at what point he'll click about his rather unbusy pub or whether he'll always be blaming someone else.

In a lot of areas stags/hens are just too much hassle. It's a locals pub, for locals. :)

In touristy areas, the landlord's main priority is to keep the local sweet. They're the ones that visit him 52 weeks of the year, for 20-40 years ..... not these fly-by-night visitors that come once.

Years ago I used to live in a small sleepy town, where I used to walk past a small shop which just had a small snooker table and two fruit machines in it.

It was sandwiched between a couple of takeaway shops, and it never had more than one or two customers in it and often had none. I couldn't figure out how it made any money and began to think it wasn't trying to.

Ten years later I met someone from the same town and I happened to mention that parade of shops, and he confirmed what I suspected , that it was eventually exposed as a front for money-laundering.

I'd agree if chewy had suggested anything was happening which may have upset the locals. As it is it just seems as if he either couldn't be bothered or had made some assumptions about what would happen.
Either way it is poor business IMO.
