Kept quiet after that. Not my fault they had carpet in the kitchen area, and not my carpet either.
So you behaved in that well known manner "A tenant-like manner" aka "couldn't give a flying ....."

No, they start off exceedingly expensive. Their price for a single B&B is £50/night, so they can afford to knock £10 .... they'd make money if it rained every day for every guest.

Sorry, I was joking (should have made it more obv). I didn't even bother looking up the price as I guessed it must be high enough for them to be offering £10 back a night :o

Whenever I've been looking for places to stay for a couple of nights, b+bs have been much more expensive even than that. Travelodge/ Premier Inn had generally been cheaper. I'm often surprised at the cost of a night on '4 in a bed'.

There are roads here which have loads of B+Bs. In the past couple of years, we have gained one travelodge and two premier inns. Wonder how much longer the B+Bs are going to be around for?

I started off giving one, but after a lesson in washing machine maintenance too many (ie the first one)... I would have been more receptive if it had been a newer machine, but it clearly wasn't (wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to my age). Didn't think trying to tape it back together was the best idea either!

Oh, and the landlords spent about half the year abroad in various places. It was difficult not to feel like I was paying for it sometimes :o

B&B averages about £35- £40 a night here, and our relatives visiting for the wedding raved about the places they stayed in.

They'll appreciate staying with us for free even more now, though!:rotfl:

I'm a right tightwad.... and I know there's always something cheaper to be found. Right now the issues against me are "peak holiday season" and being at the seaside.... however, the rain's probably helped me there as people might be more likely to have empty rooms and be prepared to cut a deal. On the other hand, trying to find a place for the whole of August might be a step too far, I might have to move 1-3x between here and the flat I think I'm moving to.

Or, if the God of Avin a Larf is having a day off, the current tenant in the flat might move out sooner as she's given the LL a lot of notice so she can fill the slot, rather than needing that time. LL was going to have this "dates" conversation with her last night, so who knows... might be lucky.

Re kitchen discusion, The length of my kitchen to be has just been measured in a series on mm measurements for a drawing.

    Its 3680 plus 100 plus 3625 plus 90 plus 1615.

Brilliant. That sounds like my husband measured it.

B&Bs here are £40-60 on average. Driving round I can see signs declaring "From £20 PPPN", but that's always for two sharing.

I found my current deal by being determined to find something cheaper.... I've ended up at £21, but it took me about 10-12 hours' surfing and Googling to find it - and when I phoned the price was £33/night, I got it super-low by staying for some weeks and not wanting the room servicing. I know two others in this road say the same £30-35 price on the Internet - and I've got a lead of a holiday flat round the corner that's £180/week out of season and £350 in August.... so I could try to tout my dates and my preferred rate to those and see if I get a bite.

Of course you were. They are of the "Entitled Class" and you're "Renter Scum Class"

    Simples :)

I am very non MSE on the architect as I left it all to OH who paid him out of his account. I think we are up to about £1500 for detailed plans, planning permission etc and just building controls to do now with a soil test and some other ground test.

We can't wait to do some of it but we need to get other quotes as the firm we wanted to use (who we know is good from other work) came in about 40% more than OH estimated. Snag is we know the work will be superb. Is that worth 40% more cost?

I'd see if your builder definitely needs/wants Building Control plans. I know more about current building regs than our architect. If the work isn't absolutely massive and you're not dealing with a listed building where you have all sorts of arguing between conservation and building control, then a good builder will be able to do it on Building Notice, have a bit of a relationship with building control and save a few £s that way.

You definitely want more than one quote from a builder!
