I don't think it can have been. All the exam boards had exams carrying on all this week, and won't have any next week, so I don't see how secondary schools, at least, can have had a different week of half term from the rest of the country. Generally, half terms in the autumn and spring vary from county to county and between independent schools, but the summer one is fixed by the exam boards to be the week with the bank holiday, and that's the same for everyone.
From the Cornwall county council website:
Council websites are those bizarre beasts where they're structured/written by people who work within them, in the way they understand the system..... and all the rest of us trying to use the website have no idea where anything is as we've no idea what departments are called or do....0 -
(and I'm not just saying that cos I fancy her)
There's a telly programme this week where some bloke's been monitoring class and taste
I think to fancy me people would have to be upper class, of course. I'm exciting and different.0 -
Got a card from the postman saying we need to trot a mile tomorrow to the Post Office in the nearby post-town, to pay 50p for amissing stamp and £1 for an admin fee, Now I'm missing a parcel but the clues are strong that this isn't it.
So they can jolly well do what they like with it. The last time this happened it was a forgetful relative sending a card and didn't even put their name inside it!0 -
My dad used to say "Hello" and a couple of other greetings to the Chinese at our chippy in the 1970s. He was always given a warm welcome in their shop because of this ... although I used to say "I bet they say 'Oh no, here comes that annoying bloke that thinks he's clever'"0

What is annoying is this endless TV coverage saying there's lots going on over the 4-day weekend. No. If you live in/near London there is. Elsewhere if you have kids and are involved with something there might be. Here, nothing. There's some "mostly kids focussed" open get together down town on Tuesday, but I am not around Tuesday as I've got "electrical appliance relocation day" going on.... which also involves me getting a disposable barbecue and 2 bread rolls, so I can eat a burger on a sibling's patio. Two people huddled round a 99p disposable barbq isn't much of an event. 2 burgers each, in a bread roll - and there's not a lot you can have on the side of that (we both eat/like different things) ... and if it's raining, it'll be 2 burgers done under the grill and eaten inside the house.0

Ah - but in the SE we are promised 4 days of cold rain so I suspect whatever events people are taking part in are going to be pretty miserable. On our road they decided not to move the annual street party from July, a decision doubly supported by me, firstly because the weather will be better and also of course given my Republican leanings.PasturesNew wrote: »What is annoying is this endless TV coverage saying there's lots going on over the 4-day weekend. It seems to me my corner of the county has been plastered in cath kidstonesque red, white and blue bunting......but the annual scarecrow walk and competition is cancelled.
As dh fired up the strimmer to attack an acre of docks the heavens opened. Sp the not quite dead heads i did not remove this morning will now look totally dead and when my mother arrives she will tick me off about that..
I did throw granular feed around the borders yesterday so the rain will be good for that purpose..

Lots happening here. 60 gun salute and service on the playing field, bring & share lunch. Pies pasties & cider at a location only locals can identify in the advertising......:D
....Actually, come to think of it, it's mainly pies, pasties & booze. :rotfl:0 -

Parents' approval.... an impossible dream, a myth.
I've done stuff 24/7 for about 400 days, every waking thought/action is drectly related to parents, organising, sorting, researching, doing, delivering, collecting, gathering, arranging, checking, ensuring ..... best interests and best health and best experience. And now it's got to the stage where a sibling can swan in once a month and be greeted with a moan from the old who 'doesn't know where I am and hasn't seen me'.
I've done the most - and am in the most 'trouble'.0
