so its not just my odd friends who have reasonably decent self esteem, sense of humour and appreciation that i can like a golliwog without wearing a kkk outfit?
I do know some poeple do genuinely get upset by this sort of thing, its just that i tend to assume my friends know us well enough to know its not that sort of an issue here. As i say, i am more concerned about people who do not know us well, who might visit and draw incorrect conclusions. I don't like the idea of keeping them tucked away in the bedroom because that almost feels as if i might be hiding them away because i feel they mean a bad intent. Dunno though, might be the safest thing when people visit. Shame, the old ones are dear things.0 -

For me, it would depend on the person - there are some people who if they were the owner, would make me feel uncomfortable. I would be pretty sure that someone who I considered a friend would not have one with negative thoughts attached, so would not bother me. Especially if it was old (does that sound odd?)0 -

No, that makes sense to me. Obviously a golly might mean something wuite differ ent to a bnp candidate or a white supremisist. I can understand that perfectly.
Problem is i can also see people who do not know us well do mot know we are not. That i suppose does mean they have to be upstairs.
Btw, i also have a fondness for blackamoors.:o0 -
good: I did 5k today! (although it was on the crosstrainer, and it was in 29mins...).
i hurt the same bit on my back again, i think it's going to be problematic....

I meant more the new v old thing... Perhaps a bit like ivory? Having an old piece of ivory to me would be ok, but buying recently 'harvested' would not. To be honest I'm not sure what I think about upstairs v downstairs... Might save people making wrong assumptions, but a shame to hide away just in case if you are so fond, and eg one was a gift from a black friend (so not like you're trying to make any negative statements). Are you likely to have anyone round who would be offended/ not know you well enough?0 -

Ha! Perhaps
Saw a golly on a market stall, mum and I commented that we were suprised to see it (as you might think people would have concerns such as we are discussing), but not at all offended. (not that we are black but still)0 -

Vercar, is that a real line in one of those books? We can barely breath from laughing and dh is threating to chase me with his pointer finger and mew at me. If this is real than i think the books might be worth buying.0
