Hmm, i was hoping you might give me a great recipe for a yummy spinach curry according to nikkster....?

Ah. That is where I'll probably fail! Firstly, we're not really into recipes (more freestyle). Secondly, don't tell anyone, but the curries in our household usually come out of a jar of paste or sauce (but they pass the test). We use frozen spinach (bit of a waste to buy fresh for a curry), rather than fresh, and added in when the curry is simmering. If you had fresh spinach I would add it in at the end (so it wilts, but is not obliterated). We like our curries on the hotter side, and I think it goes well in a bhuna/ dopiaza type sauce. Also good with mushrooms and lentils.

    Sorry!

Nikkster, are you a good cook?
I'd not know the answer to that... I've not really cooked for anybody. On the 2-3 occasions I have done I know it was wolfed down heartily and gratefully by the recipients... last time was Xmas dinner and the compliments over the amazing Yorkshire had a tone of disbelief about them... as if I'd not be able to make a Yorkshire.

I know I could cook.... I just never have to. And it can't be hard can it. Of course, fannying about at MasterChef level would be hard, but cooking good, tasty, honest food's not hard at all... being bothered... now THAT's hard!

It doesn't surprise me anyone who likes unambiguous claer instructions would be a good solid cook. In fact, it seems very logical.

Maybe there's a spinach curry in that Takeaway Secret book.... there's two volumes now, so odds are higher.

The thing about brick lane is partly convenience. I quite like the feeling of.......otherness...too. We had an amazing meal on southall once. Like nothing i have eaten anywhere. We had very strange effects from it. Dh likes..hmmm ...Do i mean drummond st? He likes all that indian dessert.

I have eaten in Pakistan, Karachi but have to admit i don't remember many details.

Having lived not so far away from Southall, I'm ashamed to say I've never eaten there. It was on my list of things to do as passed through many times on the bus to Ealing. I would think it would be quite different to Whitechapel as E1 is more Bangladeshi (I think). Yes, know what you mean about the otherness. I'll never forget the first time I walked down Brick Lane, or emerged from Whitechapel tube station!

Can't say I really like Indian desserts. And they all seem much of a muchness to me.

I don't think you can go too far wrong with a curry - just bung some in :)
