Korma = what people who don't like curries eat when they go out with their mates for a curry.
I had one at lunchtime today when out with some friends somewhere with a special offer on curries.
Took DS to fracture clinic this morning. He's got to go back next week and after that they'll probably refer him for physio. I took the opportunity, while in a room with DS and an orthopaedic doc, to ask about his arm - the one that got broken in "the accident". I had thought it had all healed up fine (apart from the surgical scars where the pins were put in and later taken back out) but it now turns out he says he can't throw overarm without pain. The doc thinks he's got a little bit of restricted movement in that arm (the right one, and he's right-handed) so they're going to do an updated X-ray next week and then decide what to do - probably physio for that too, I imagine. Meanwhile, he's off for his taster day at his secondary school tomorrow. He'll be walking there with the girls from next door - one his own age also going on the taster day, and an older one who's at the school already.
DD is showing a talent for scrabble - I only just beat her, although I did help her quite a lot, especially when she got high scoring letters or wanted to get on a triple word score square. (She's 8, BTW.)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I've not tasted many curries. When I order a curry I've got ONE chance to get it right ... so I can't order the unknown in case it's horrid..... I'd love to go to a buffet, but, to date, I've never found anybody that was interested in going to one (probably that's partly also because buffet nights tend to be mid-week, whereas the time one's most likely to randomly end up having a curry it's a Fri/Sat).
I just head for a biryani as I love the rice. I also like lemon rice, naan, peshwari naan, chilli naan. I also love bhajis and bombay potatoes. I never order bhaji or bombay potatoes because one biryani fills me up ... and the few times I do order a naan too I know I'll be struggling to finish at all.0 -

Perhaps that will be one good thing to come out of the fracture then, the chance for someone to look at his arm (I'm guessing that you might have been unsure whether to seek advice on that alone, and perhaps even that it hadn't been mentioned up til now).0 -

I only got really brave with indian food at restaurants (as opposed to the pnes my mother makes - family connection was Indian Army, the food stuckor at friends homes) when i had boyfriends who would eat what i don't like. I discovered i loved hot sour lentily things. huge advantage of boys.
Hmm, if the weather stays like this might make curry on thursday night now.
Nikkster, are you a good cook?0 -

I guess I should have had some rich boyfriends, who liked curry.... and who would take me on dinner dates. Somebody should have told me sooner!0 -

Now there's a question...
I'd like to think I'm quite capable. I'm more 'Ready, Steady, Cook' (open fridge/ cupboard, see what's there, give it a whirl type of thing) than Masterchef. But I did cater for a.n.other for almost 4 years and only had complaints on a couple of occasions :A0 -

Yep, the food test is important in its own right a much as for what i believe it to be representative of.0 -

Hmm, i was hoping you might give me a great recipe for a yummy spinach curry according to nikkster....?0 -
Mince and mushroom curry is my favourite whenever I go back gto Glasgow, whose curries I miss. Nothing wrong with a spinachy saag. Always fancied being a southern curryspondent for one of the Glasgow curry blogs.
I could review Tayyabs (Nikksters favourite ) or the India Club (ndg's favourite)
Actually my mouths watering just thinking of the stuff.
As they say up there- Keep Calm and Curry On.
Actually, although I did rate Tayyabs highly, I think my favourite was another on Commercial Road - I think it was called Lahore. Unhelpfully there is at least one other restaurant with the same name not very far away on the same road. Its very basic inside (but massive), but I preferred it (and you don't feel like you're being rushed to vacate the table).
Can't say I was ever very impressed by Brick Lane, but after a few pints after work the queue for Tayyabs would be enormous and it was on the way to Aldgate so it would be rude not to really!0 -

The thing about brick lane is partly convenience. I quite like the feeling of.......otherness...too. We had an amazing meal on southall once. Like nothing i have eaten anywhere. We had very strange effects from it. Dh likes..hmmm ...Do i mean drummond st? He likes all that indian dessert.
I have eaten in Pakistan, Karachi but have to admit i don't remember many details.0
