It's a GMTV Silvercar. Surely ITV wouldn't be allowed to do that?

Elder son wants/ needs to stay at uni over the Summer - he has to hand in dissertation in September. All fine except the tenancy on the student house he currently shares ends next week. Now there must be thousands of students who have signed new tenancies starting next week who don't all want to live in their accommodation until September, who would happily sub let their room for 2 months, how do you find them?

uni online bulletin board? we have an online notice board that everyone can post things on, we have plenty of sublets there now.

You didn't say it was GMTV, I thought you were following my facebook suggestion.

Every day on FB there is some link where someone is supposedly going to win Tesco vouchers, Tesco now have an entry on their newsfeed saying its a scam.

What about the actual uni accommodation? I know some is available for Summer lets, but they must want to let the rest out, given only postgrads are on campus.

This thread suggests that standard off-campus lets are now charging for the summer:

Can he speak to the uni's accommodation office and see what they suggest?

Uni halls are available but they are minimum of £95 a week.

The only thing I can think of is friends of friends/ word if mouth, never heard of a place where they are advertised. Look on departmental noticeboards or at the students union? A website like spareroom.co.UK?

Edit: Viva's suggestion sounds good to me

He doesn't think the uni bulletin board is used that much.

Pastures, speaking of libraries and Internet, there's something that may interest you.

Some of the independent drivers have been saying about Google changing the criteria for their ad to those that are paying them, for display on Google. It's benefitted the likes of us, who pay to advertise on there (were 2nd under one of the most used searches for the local airport) however I didn't know if this has affected you at all.

    I'd be interested to hear.

Not sure I understood that ....

There've been a lot of changes in Google in the past 2 years, more local results/Google local, Google's updates (Panda etc), Google search results auto-complete, mobile device ads (less clicks) .... among some of them.

Then there's been the global economy and less money for advertising chasing more slots available = less per click for many, less ads showing up in potential ad slots ...

It's a totally different playing field to what it was 5 years ago.

He could start by speaking with his current LL... maybe the LL's not managed to fill that house yet and would be grateful for one lone body to be loitering around until September.

Others use the time to revamp the houses.

are they still having exams? Then a physical poster near exam halls might work. It does depend on the uni though.

Gumtree works for some places too.

I have to report back to the NPs that I have been trying to read the press feedback to 50 Shades of Grey. It's interesting to us because its a popular book, its good to see what's being written about it, particularly because it has come out of left field to be better selling than the Harry Potter franchise.

Unfortunately, because most reviews use words like s*x and p0rn, I've managed to crash the firewall numerous times. I am expecting disciplinary action to be taken against me, so may have to call you all as witnesses to prove that it was in the public interest. Of course I blame silvercar for starting this (not really, in fact not really to all of this apart from the fact I do keep crashing computers by looking it up). "Oh really madam, you want to read 50 Shades of Grey, Computer says no".

Beat me to it. One caveat is the student room recently had a security issue so deffo use a new password or a http://www.mailinator.com/email address for registering.
    Good luck with the search.:)

This sounds like lone of the original parts of the internet I'd forgotten about ( Reaches for 1997 edition of Rough Guide to the Internet, rediscovers that the internet has five parts and wonders how many the other NPs will remember apart from the World Wide Web):D

Edit: went out to taxi DD home before posting - should have read the interceding posts before pressing button.:o
