This proposal is nothing to do with how much money you have in the bank over which you have power of attorney!!
It's done.... got caught up in natwest issues.... 4 hour delay ..... kn4ckered, headache, tired... but that's it,
    I think....

This may amuse the NP - despite charging £5000 per week for my house outside of the Olympic period I have had my first enquiry for 2 weeks over Christmas, must be because it is in a ski resort :)
    I think....

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

DD had last exam and last day at school today. :j
My students all made it to the exam despite the bus strike.

Trebles all round, as Private Eye would say!

And for entertainment, Jimmy Carr is hosting his quiz show and that takes guts!

Jimmy Carr is having quite a tough time on 9 out of 10 cats. Looking quite uncomfortable, but fair play for not having called in sick!

I have to say that singling him out personally by the PM is a bit out of order.

I finished Choclat on the train this evening so I am feeling all empathetic and in touch with my feminine side

An awful evening. Within 30 minutes of each other my former secretary told me that her daughter has had to move back in with her after being attacked by her boyfriend, and then my current secretary told me she had split up with her husband after he hit her. I am thoroughly disgusted by life.

PN, great to hear that's over.
Personally, if I was going to put together a list of 10 books which would, in my view, make someone well read, then all of them would be non-fiction. I suppose I might stick something like all quiet on the western front, or storm of steel on there, because although they are works of fiction, they are basically, at least in part, first hand accounts of a key point in history which are a more useful source for understanding what it was like than reading a factual history.

I'd push for as many people as possible to read Nineteen Eighty-Four. A world of cameras everywhere and everyone distracted by tv that you can't turn off. Big Brother and Room 101. I expect a lot of people would regard it as worthy but even the movie's a belter.

Right I'm going to start reading for pleasure when the madness all calms down soon.
As a scifi fan, I'm recommending Pat Cadigan's Patterns if you can get your hands on a copy. She wrote these short stories some time ago but they're stunning- there's some reviews here.
Having read this and the previous thread, am I to take it that The Hunger Games is a good choice?
