The reality is that unless the elderly person is willing, able, engaged, not 4rsey, then it's possible. For others, there's a combination of:
- elderly fiddling with it
- elderly knocking it/spilling things on it
- elderly becoming paranoid that "they are watching me"
- elderly not really understanding
- having to get an internet connection and a PC and a webcam into the room, somewhere, at a time when you're minimising/decluttering and ensuring that there are no cables to trip on and that it reaches a power socket and won't get unplugged every time they want a lamp on or Terry Wogan.
Once elderly, with some dementia, ..... they get locked into bizarre behaviours, they're unpredictable, paranoid, awkward, demanding, stroppy... and will dig their heels in
I have a fair idea of how contrary elderly people can be. There's nobody more difficult than MIL!
The whole thing would need to be secured to the wall, with cables tidied, etc. It needs to be made robust, with a dedicated fused spur, on/off button blanked off etc.
It is conceptually very simple, but rather harder to achieve in practice. That's why you can make £1m+ selling this to local authorities - assuming that it meets one of their needs. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I am super busy today ... and being thwarted by the way they do things down this way .... last time I went to storage with a car full... it was closed as the bloke wasn't there; tip had 20 cars in a queue when it opened, so I went back (also done 2 more visits as I am getting through it all little-by-little between rain showers). Charity ... closed, had to go back later.
It's getting there.... just in Kernow Time.
My excuse is I just had to have some lunch as I was expecting somebody to remove some equipment... done both now. Let my Snickers bar digest for 5 minutes then I'll go do another random task I fancy.0 -

I'm not sure what to do. My uncle was called into the MRI last night for a kidney transplant. He's in surgery right now. My aunt hasn't slept at all, we're sat in their car right now. I live two hours down, she lives an hour up and she doesn't drive.
Where do I put her? I think she's in shock, I want her to rest, or try to. I don't really know where I am and I din't know if there is relative accommodation or devent cheap hotel?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

i think funding for social care is moving towards a model whereby you get a pot of money and get told you can spend it on what you want. i'm not quite sure how it's supposed to work as my mind wanders off and i only catch snippets of what OH is talking about when she starts talking about work, but you may have to convince old biddies themselves to spend their money on it.
if that's the case, i suggest a 24/7 skype uplink to mecca bingo would be a useful addition to this service.0 -

are you on your way to pick her up to go to the hospital? perhaps just get her there first and worry about it then; reception at the hospital might be able to advise places to stay nearby that are cheap, it can't be the first time they've had enquiries from relatives wanting to know where to stay nearby when someone has been admitted to hospital at short notice.0 -
According to Google, there are some truly awful hotels right by MRI. There's a Holiday Inn Express about a mile away. EDIT: that's showing as full.

Id get a second opinion if I were you because that sounds like tax fraud on at least two levels to me.Very dodgy - either you are getting a benefit in kind and so should be declaring that on your P11D or the company is making payment on your behalf and it should be subject to income tax. I know this because we inquired if it was possible and was told that this loophole was closed in the 1980s!
My tax code this year is 948K, did phone her to check, and that's how it's calculated (£3k is for the car, other £6.5k is for the school fees.)
Is still more tax efficient to do this in this way.
