So I've got good download, which is nice as there are a lot of devices connected at any one time.

But I'm pinging slowly. Don't know where virgin cable is based, Watford I thought. Explains why I am not top of the leader board on bejeweled.

    Lower ping is better :)

You must just be rubbish at bejeweled :D;)

    Seems all right.
The last few pages here are a revelation. I could have used that info when I was trying to find out why my dad's connection is so slow!

Thanks sss Lydia and all the others!

My recommendations for the best browsing experience is...

Google Chrome Browser This is the fastest main browser IMO and introduced a lot of the most recent browser enhancements. I know a few NP use Chrome and wonder if they find it better than the rest or not?

CCleaner This software cleans out your unwanted cookies and un-required registry entrys that clog up and slow down your internet browsing.

In options/ cookies, you can save cookies from the likes of MSE or sites you visit regularly so you don't have to log in after cleaning.

It makes a real noticeable difference to page loading speed and clears the browser bottle necks.

I use that at least every couple of days.

    Any other suggestions NP?

    Avast Internet Protection (https://www.avast.com)

Don’t pay for it! Tells you it’s updated 2/3 times a day and keeps the PC’s spotless!

I’ve gone unprotected now on my MacBook, as it slows it down too much!

I think this is a fail on the broadband EPEEN side, isn't it?

OK this does seem faster than average. But its got a terribe ping value.
And it's graded a C+. What would it take to be graded "A"? :p

In the Sam Knows stuff I have the choice of BT only...or Talk Talk

Oh and for this service and landline and calls I currently pay BT £51 per month, (calls to mobile being extra).

Really glad this is market is deregulated/open or I might have limited choice and end up with an expensive carp provider. Mmmm.

Where you are the market probably isn't deregulated Spirit. Not that I knew anything about this either before visiting samknows, but it says only if you are in a market with lots of competition is there deregulation and that effects 70% of the market, mostly larger urban centres. £51 does sound high. I pay approx £30 per month to BT, that's for inclusive evening and weekend calls and for the middle broadband package.

Until Infinity was introduced here we experienced much faster internet speeds and higher reliability. It's almost as though they've slowed it down to push Infinity, which we get a letter about at least once a month. There can't be any excuses regarding distances. The connection cabinet is at the end of my road and the exchange is about a mile away.
