Ok, down load is 0.45 first time, 0.44 second
    Upload is 0.33 then 0.07
    Ping, 64 then 60

I would contact Plusnet about that. It looks way slow and there may be a problem.

Best to use this number as I'm sure it's free: 0800 4320 200

I'm on BT. I haven't got round to thinking about whether or not I should upgrade to infinity. Somebody please advise me - I'm pretty much in the dark here. :o Oh, and while the knowledgeable nice people are about it, please could you tell me whether I should do the "tune up" thingy that the speedtest site is recommending? Thanks.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

You could also try a speed test just to see if your connection is performing as it should.

Tonight my connection's flying along compared to what I've had in the past week:

    Says Grade F :)

Slower than 86% of the UK.

    Seems all right.
The last few pages here are a revelation. I could have used that info when I was trying to find out why my dad's connection is so slow!

Thanks sss Lydia and all the others!

WHy is my download speed decent but my ping rate so so low?

Don't even know what ping does?

I'm connecting through the wireless if that makes a difference.

I'm on a legacy O2, uncapped and no traffic shaping(most current packages reserve the right to slow speeds down during busy times if you are a big usser), speed is only 8 but price is only £4.75 per month. We watch 80% of our tv online so probably do 1tb/month. Would like a high speed product but not only do they cost much more but also you are then forced to take an uncompetitive phone package and unwanted tv package.

If your phone does hspda you can get up to 7.2 given a good signal, something like the 80pa package I linked earlier on three might suit you LIR with a cheap (ebay) wifi tethering handset to do the mifi bit? Topcashback are doing £100 cashback on these contracts starting soon if anyone wants a referral.
    I think....
