Just how cheap do you want to go

That site looks quite good for lower end fones.
Edit: This link has a load to choose from.. http://www.prepaymania.co.uk/res/90
Another Edit: These can be better if she's older... http://www.prepaymania.co.uk/search.html?q=big-button
The trouble with the £2.50 phone is that it actually costs £15 by the time the £10 O2 top-up and delivery costs are added on. So, if there is something better (more robust, easier to use, nicer feel) for £20 or £30 I would buy that.
You'd best not let my wife hear you calling her 'older'!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Upgrade your phone and give her your old one? That would not be an improvement for her!
What is your budget? £20-30? (Whatever it takes, really.
If she is with GiffGaff is she on a SIM only deal at the moment? Does she need to stay with GiffGaff? She pays around £5 a month to GiffGaff for Sim only. That gives her 60 mins of calls plus 300 texts. It's all PAYG, but I've paid for the next 3 months or so. After that, she can change.
I'm on GiffGaff, as I hardly ever use my phone. So, the PAYG tariff is around £10 a year for me. I think that DW just followed along.
You have 2 options - buying a phone outright and either taking a SIM only deal (with anyone or sticking to GiffGaff) /PAYG or taking a cheap contract with a new phone thrown in.
I think Michaels is right - DW needs a basic 2g phone. If she gets an Android, she would need telephone support. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Sounds like Nokia would be the best option again.
There are loads of options on here and the C1 (second one) looks to have decent reviews...

tbh as it is your dw and you can probably trust her not to run up a bill then the three cashback deal via topcashback for the next 2 days is by far the cheapest way to get a few hundred minutes and texts and then buy a cheap handset but it would need to be a 3g handset and I think 3 get narky if you keep it switched to 2G.
Otherwise you could pay similar money per month for a 24 month contract with a basic handset included but this would require you to make about 6 'redemption claims' which are actually straight forward, can be done on line and take about 2 minutes but I suspect you probably can't be bothered with that route.I think....0 -
All carphone warehouse phones (except the really expensive) are unlocked to any network. So take your pick:

I thought we established you could only receive ADSL Max in your location.
On that basis, and with you being on Plusnet, who are one of the better ones, I'd suggest you call them and ask them why your connection is so slow and what can you do to improve it.
Then michaels started talking about mobiles......
Whoch say plus net are not good......0 -
Thanks all, very much indeed! I think the Nokia C1-02 looks like what she wants. Decent quality basic phone with a nice keypad. I will look around for the best deal to buy it, but £30-ish is not going to break the bank.
Silver, if I buy a CPW phone with the compulsory £10 top up for 3 say, that leaves me with a SIM card with £10 credit on. What would I do with that? It all seems more complicated than it needs to be. It's like going to the supermarket to buy fish fingers and being told I can only buy those if I also buy two bags of frozen peas and a pomegranate. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Plus net won't talk to me as i am not dh.
Grr.
We will call tomorrow.0
