Incidentally, how many peoples families do know about your online lives? The other day my father asked me how i knew someone and i said, well, i 'll tell you later...still haven't. He would think it was all very dodgy and flakey.
Anyone I have mentioned to in passing (usually it comes up as 'a friend with a farm in wherever etc) think it's a bit odd so I never mention it really. Having been AWOL from online chat for a few months, I miss it and, in a wierd way, I prefer it.
Back in London we have been back in touch with old friends and I find I feel very disconnected from them (after the last few stressful years and 5 yrs away in Brighton), maye I've changed as I feel far more in common with those online than in RL now.
Due to the new business model we run our work aquaintances are very different too whereas before, we would become matey with other SE people we met through the shop etc.
Sadly, I have a friend of 14 years who I just don't don't want to interract with anymore...she is very selfish, self-obsessed, resentful of our recent work things and makes snide remarks concering my appearance or life choices so I have decided to back away. OH says she is no different to before so maybe I had a thicker skin before.£50 on a handbag, too much or reasonable?
....depends if leather or not I guess......I have splurged here in Turkey on some leather bags to die for. daren't post the total spent but they'll last for years.vivatifosi wrote: »DH doesn't get it and thinks I've joined some kind of weird mushroom worshipping online cult. good luck with the uni visits Sue. We didn't go to any with son and he chose his own based on the course.

The new batch of small Petrol cars have exceptional fuel consumption. The Fiat 500 Air, and the new Peugeot 208 can do over 60 mpg.
on a good run i get 45mpg, i normally get 40mpg depending on my heavy foot.....depends if leather or not I guess......I have splurged here in Turkey on some leather bags to die for. daren't post the total spent but they'll last for years.
yes, it's leather. I wouldn't pay more than £20 for a synthetic one and even then I don't like the feel. They also wear out rather than wear in.

Threats of some small clouds, but I optimistically am in the middle of doing some hand-washing right now, 4 bits out, 2 more to go .... and I'm hoping they'll dry before they have to come in.... especially as the drying horse is already in storage
(For those who have never done hand-washing, you put the stuff/water in a bowl, chuck the clothes in, press/wiggle them about for a bit, change the water, do the same, then leave them in soak for awhile .... before eventually rinsing 2-3x in a bowl of cold/clean water.... so last items are at the soaking stage for 10 minutes).0 -
My usual miileage is either a 2 mile round trip to pop to the shops for a hot pasty .... or a 40 mile round trip to visit the old, or try to buy something. I am probably doing about 500 miles/month at the moment. The mileage I am doing is completely different to the mileage I had envisaged when making my purchasing decision.0

My usual journey is the 4 miles trek (8 mile round trip) to school (although this can increase to 5 or 6 miles depending on where James is that day) or the 3 miles (6 mile round trip) to the supermarket....or the 13 miles to the hospital, before me and hubby split, it also included a 20 mile round trip commute to work and back.
Yesterday, my total travelling was massive as middle son was in the recording studio, youngest was at a friends house, dad needed driving to get his lottery (and of course, I had to drive to theirs first), we went round to my brother and sister in law's and I had to pick James up from the nightclub. The fact we live in a village outside of the main town and all the things were in the main town (apart from the recording studio which was even further out in the sticks!), meant that each journey was a minimum of 8 miles and the times didn't match (apart from picking James up, he left early as he had work today) so I couldn't combine the journeys!
Re talking to people online, my family are used to it and know it has been a life saver (quite literally) for me due to my inability to socialise normally because of the boys.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Michaels, i just tried to send you a filthy pm but you are obviously getting far too many already. Clear one little space for me will you? Please?0

OH thinks it's a bit cultish and odd too I think. I tried to explain it's a bit like 'penpals' but he doesn't get that concept either.
However, he doesn't judge it in a bad way.

I lost so many friends when i got ill, and decided to lose some of the others afterwards. I do not look anything like the same, which offends a lot of them a lot....well....try living it i always think. I suppose to them it suggests a rasical changein lifestyle or values or something......

That's better. If I log on every three hours or so, there are only 14 posts for me to read at a time, rather than the 10 pages or so I read last night.
fc - it's lovely to have you posting again.
lir - some friendships are contextual, and fizzle naturally once the shared context is gone. Other friendships are forever. The thing is, you can't predict which is which until the shared context finishes and you find out what happens next.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
